Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Choose a game backend by starting with your game’s requirements—not a vendor feature checklist. First decide what your game needs to do, which systems must be authoritative, and who will operate them. Then compare products by scope, deployment model, engine and platform fit, realistic cost, and migration options. A backend suite, a multiplayer framework, and dedicated-server hosting solve different problems; treating them as interchangeable is a common route to a poor shortlist.
What does your game need its backend to do?
“What backend should I use for my mobile game?” is a useful starting question, but it is too broad to choose a product. List the player-facing features and operational needs your game actually requires. Mark each as a launch requirement, a later possibility, or out of scope.
- Identity and accounts: guest play, sign-in, account linking, and recovery.
- Persistence and progression: player saves, progression data, cross-device continuity, and any cross-progression between platforms.
- Game logic and authority: which rules or outcomes must be validated server-side, and whether gameplay requires an authoritative dedicated server.
- Multiplayer: matchmaking, lobbies or sessions, and realtime networking.
- Live operations and economy: events, rewards, virtual currency or items, segmentation, and experimentation.
- Player services: leaderboards, chat, and moderation needs.
- Operations and insight: analytics, event streaming, service-health visibility, and data export.
For each requirement, record whether a candidate provides it as a built-in service, an add-on, or something your team must build or source elsewhere. That map is more useful than a simple count of checked feature boxes.
Which kind of backend are you evaluating?
Products described as game backends can occupy different architectural layers. A managed service suite may cover accounts, progression, economy, analytics, and LiveOps. A multiplayer framework may provide building blocks for realtime or server-side game logic without supplying every player-facing service. A dedicated-server hosting service runs and scales game servers but does not, by itself, necessarily provide accounts, economy, or LiveOps.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
For example, Microsoft describes PlayFab as a managed game backend with analytics and LiveOps. Its documentation lists capabilities such as identity, title data, economy, matchmaking, dedicated servers, leaderboards, chat, progression, and event streaming. Microsoft’s materials also describe SDKs for Unity and Unreal, custom-engine language support, and integrations for PC, consoles, mobile stores, and streaming. These are vendor-described capabilities: check the current documentation for the specific feature, SDK version, platform, and product configuration your game needs. Microsoft Learn’s PlayFab overview was last updated May 21, 2025; its product materials are also subject to change.
Amazon GameLift Servers is a different example: AWS documents game-server hosting and scaling, matchmaking and session capabilities, local development with GameLift Anywhere, and hybrid compute. Its feature page describes deployment across up to 26 Regions and 9 Local Zones; check AWS’s current location documentation for availability at your intended launch locations. AWS also describes using aliases and queues to move player sessions between server versions. Hosting is not the same as a complete game backend: AWS documentation treats the backend service that handles player join requests, authentication, or custom logic as a separate component, potentially using services such as Lambda, S3, and Cognito. See the GameLift Servers features page and AWS’s developer documentation.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Other candidates named in a community-maintained comparison include Unity Gaming Services, Heroic Labs products (Nakama, Satori, and Hiro), Metaplay, Colyseus, brainCloud, PlayFab, AWS GameLift, and AccelByte. The comparison characterizes products across different architectures, including service suites, modular services, frameworks, and hosting layers. Use it to generate questions and a shortlist, not as proof that similarly named features work the same way in your game. Review the comparison matrix and its project repository, then verify details in each finalist’s official documentation.
Decide who owns authority and operations
Architecture determines what the backend must do and what work stays with your team. In a competitive or economy-sensitive game, identify which actions need server-side validation and who implements that logic. Then ask how the code is deployed and operated: managed cloud, self-hosted, hybrid, or a combination.

- Travel Must-Have for People On the Go: A must-have travel accessory for flights, flying, airports, air travel, airplanes, planes, international trips, cruises, and long travel days. Key gadget for your airport haul, travel accessories and must-haves.
- Server authority: establish where important game state and outcomes are decided, and whether the product’s server-side programming model can support those rules.
- Operational ownership: determine who patches and monitors services, manages scaling and incidents, and configures environments.
- Control and extensibility: check source access, APIs, custom code options, local development, and whether components can be replaced independently.
- Infrastructure assembly: list the cloud services, networking, storage, and operational tooling your team would need to add around the candidate.
A fully managed offering can reduce infrastructure assembly while making your game more dependent on the provider’s services and terms. A self-hosted or framework-based approach can offer more control, but it also makes the team responsible for operating more of the system. Metaplay’s article, first published June 19, 2023 and updated January 24, 2026, presents bespoke backend technology as a route to customization and control that costs engineering time and staffing; treat that as the vendor author’s analysis, not a universal result. Read Metaplay’s comparison.
Check engine, storefront, and cross-platform fit
Do not stop at “supports mobile” or “has a Unity SDK.” Confirm that the candidate supports your actual engine and SDK versions, server-side language, storefronts and consoles, and required identity providers. If players will move between devices, verify cross-device progression; if they will play together, verify cross-play. Those are distinct requirements and may involve different integrations or platform rules.

PlayFab’s product page describes free-to-start evaluation and pay-as-you-go as usage scales. It also states that Development Mode allows up to 1,000 lifetime player account creations per title and up to ten Development Mode titles per account. Those are product limits, not a recurring allowance; verify current terms on the PlayFab pricing page and product page before relying on them.
AWS states that its GameLift feature page supports up to 26 Regions and 9 Local Zones, and advertises up to 20% better price-performance for Graviton compared with comparable x86-based EC2 instances. The performance statement is AWS’s claim and is not a guarantee for every game workload. Check current locations and pricing in the AWS feature information and the GameLift Servers pricing page.
There is no neutral, workload-specific benchmark here that establishes which shortlisted service will have the lowest cost or latency for your game. Estimate from your own usage model and validate performance in the regions and network conditions that matter to your players.
Evaluate scale, reliability, and migration risk
Ask how a candidate handles the concurrency pattern your game expects, what regions are available, and how matchmaking and scaling behave during peaks. A published region count cannot establish latency for your player base; test with a representative vertical slice in the intended geographies. Review service-health information and incident visibility, and confirm what support and escalation are included in the plan you would actually use. Microsoft points PlayFab users to a live service-status page; check it alongside the provider’s current support terms.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBefore committing, determine how you can retrieve player and game data, what APIs are available, and how much game logic would have to be rewritten if you changed providers. Source availability, export formats, and reliance on proprietary services all affect migration cost. A requirements-to-service map should make external dependencies and potential exit work visible before they are embedded in production.
Quick Recap
Use a shortlist process that exposes risk early
- Define the game and operating assumptions. Write down the game mode, authority model, engine, target platforms, launch regions, expected usage, and required live features.
- Classify candidates by scope and deployment. Separate backend suites, multiplayer frameworks, and hosting layers; record what is built in, external, or self-operated.
- Apply hard requirements first. Remove candidates that cannot support a required platform, architecture, or capability, based on current official documentation.
- Prototype the riskiest integration. Build a small vertical slice covering authentication, persistence, and the multiplayer operation most likely to expose a mismatch. Include local development and deployment in the test.
- Estimate total monthly cost. Compare low, expected, and peak scenarios with the same workload assumptions, including infrastructure your team must add.
- Review operation and exit paths. Confirm service health visibility, support, data export, operational ownership, and the effort needed to migrate game logic or player data.
- Verify current terms before choosing. Recheck pricing, limits, platform support, locations, and support plans on the provider’s official pages at decision time.
