1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf your game crashes, freezes, or shows visual glitches after a GPU overclock, reset the GPU to stock settings and retry the same game or application. If the problem disappears at stock and returns after a controlled tuning change, that is strong evidence the overclock is unstable. A crash alone does not prove it: drivers, heat, power, memory, and other hardware can cause similar symptoms.
Which symptoms can indicate an unstable GPU overclock?
Instability may show up as a game or application crash, a hang, a driver timeout or recovery (TDR), a blue screen, a random reboot, visible corruption such as flickering or artifacts, or a hardware error. AMD lists these among common stability symptoms, while noting that overheating, faulty hardware, and driver or operating-system issues can look similar (AMD stability guidance).
Record what changed—core clock, memory clock, voltage, power limit, or a saved tuning profile—and note which game or application fails, when it fails, whether the display recovers, and what the corruption looks like. Repeatable symptoms tied to a particular setting are more useful than a single unexplained crash.
How do you check whether the overclock is the cause?
- Reset GPU tuning to stock. Use the reset control in your tuning software. MSI Afterburner, for example, provides a Reset control to restore defaults (MSI Afterburner guide). Temporarily turn off other overclocking utilities if they may be applying settings too. AMD recommends putting system components at factory defaults during an initial stability investigation (AMD stability guidance).
- Retry the same workload. Use the same game, application, scene, or action that triggered the problem. If it now runs normally, the overclock is a likely contributor. If it still fails at stock, investigate other system causes before tuning the GPU again (AMD stability guidance; AMD troubleshooting guidance).
- Reintroduce changes one at a time. Start from the last known stable profile, change only one control, and test again. AMD advises using small increments and returning to the last stable setting if crashes, hangs, or graphical corruption occur (AMD tuning guidance). There is no universally suitable MHz step: GPU silicon, board design, cooling, and available controls differ.
The strongest practical indication is a repeatable pattern: the failure occurs with a tuned profile, stops at stock, and returns after a specific controlled adjustment. A single test result is weaker evidence.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How should you test stability?
Use both a short diagnostic workload and the games or applications you actually use. Different workloads exercise different GPU behavior, so passing one benchmark does not rule out a game-specific failure.
| Test option | What it can tell you | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| AMD Adrenalin Stress Test | AMD says this checks the current GPU tuning; its default duration is 60 seconds (AMD Adrenalin guidance). | A crash or reboot resets tuning to defaults in this software. Completing the short test is not a guarantee of stability in every game or operating state. |
| Benchmark followed by a familiar game | MSI describes a 10-minute benchmark followed by testing a familiar game (MSI Afterburner guide). | This is MSI’s suggested sequence, not a universal duration or pass threshold. |
| Normal games and applications | These test the workloads that matter to your use. AMD’s tuning guidance recommends running normal 3D games and applications for a few hours after a manual adjustment (AMD tuning guidance). | A successful run covers only the software and conditions tested; it cannot prove stability everywhere. |
| NVIDIA DCGM diagnostics | On supported NVIDIA systems, DCGM offers distinct memory, compute, PCIe, power, and thermal checks (NVIDIA DCGM diagnostics). | GPU and release support varies, and this datacenter-oriented suite is not required for ordinary consumer troubleshooting. A failure can also reflect host software, topology, cooling, power, or workload interference. |
These vendor recommendations differ in workload and duration; none establishes a universal time or pass result that proves an overclock is stable. A visual glitch, hang, or driver timeout is reason to stop the test and roll back, not to keep raising clocks.

Are extreme stress tests safe?
Use care with power-focused stress tools. NVIDIA says FurMark is designed to maximize GPU power draw well beyond a real-world application or game (NVIDIA FurMark guidance). Such loads may trigger temperature or current protection mechanisms. Do not disable those protections to force a test: NVIDIA warns that doing so can permanently damage a graphics card and void its manufacturer’s warranty.
