You can roll back The Witcher 3 through the supported launcher options on Steam and GOG GALAXY. Steam offers the CLASSIC beta branch; GOG GALAXY offers its Classic channel and a selector for available versions. CD PROJEKT RED says rollback is not available on the Epic Games Store, which provides only the latest version.
How to roll back The Witcher 3 on Steam
- Open your Steam Library.
- Right-click The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and choose Properties.
- Open BETAS and select CLASSIC. Steam will update the game to that branch.
To return to the newest version, go back to Properties → BETAS and select None. CD PROJEKT RED’s official instructions document the Classic branch, not a way to choose any individual historical Steam patch.
How to roll back The Witcher 3 on GOG GALAXY
- Open Installed in GOG GALAXY.
- Select The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, then choose Manage Installation → Configure…
- Set Beta Channels to Classic.
- Disable automatic updates, choose the preferred version available in the selector, and click OK.
To move back to the newest version, return to the same configuration and set Beta Channels to Disabled. GOG’s rollback documentation says the feature works in GOG GALAXY after opting to install updates manually, and depends on earlier updates remaining published.
Can you roll back on the Epic Games Store?
No supported rollback route is documented for the Epic Games Store. CD PROJEKT RED says Epic provides access only to the latest available version. Its platform-specific guidance is on the same official support page.

What to check before switching versions
Confirm the build is actually available
Classic or a preferred-version selector does not guarantee that every patch ever released is still selectable. Check the versions your launcher offers before relying on a particular build. GOG’s rollback feature requires the earlier update to remain published.
Check mod compatibility against the exact game version
If you are rolling back for a mod, compare the mod author’s version notes with the game build you plan to use. Compatibility is version-specific. CD PROJEKT RED’s published compatibility list is a snapshot for the update it covers, not a live guarantee for every mod and build. For instance, it marks Always Full Exp (1.31) “NO” with “Script error,” while No Dirty Lens Effect is marked “YES.”

Understand the support trade-off
CD PROJEKT RED states that “Only the latest version of the game is fully supported, as it contains all the latest improvements, fixes and changes.” The developer advises updating first if you encounter a problem on an older build. That is its support position; it does not mean an older version cannot run.
