Streamlabs Desktop also supports YouTube streaming and scene sources. But the available official documentation does not confirm the repeat controls or end-of-file behavior for this specific use in either app, so neither can be called the proven choice for an unattended loop. Check the current media-source controls before relying on either one.
What each app is documented to do
PRISM Live Studio
PRISM’s performance guide says, “The Media Source allows you to add and play video or audio files stored on your device.” That establishes local video playback, not automatic replay: the documentation cited here does not identify a loop toggle or explain what happens when playback reaches the end. PRISM Live Studio, “Optimizing Live Streaming Performance”.
PRISM’s FAQ lists YouTube support and five protocols: RTMP, HLS (YouTube), WHIP (Twitch), SRT, and RIST. This is a vendor statement and may change with product versions; consult the current FAQ when setting up a stream. PRISM Live Studio FAQ.
Streamlabs Desktop
Streamlabs’ setup documentation covers connecting Desktop to YouTube, adding scene sources, and going live. The material cited here does not establish the exact steps or controls for playing a local video repeatedly, including whether playback restarts automatically at the end. Streamlabs YouTube streaming guide and Streamlabs Desktop quick-start guide.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How to choose between them
| What to compare | PRISM Live Studio | Streamlabs Desktop |
|---|---|---|
| Local video playback | Official guide confirms Media Source plays video or audio stored on the device; repeat behavior is not established in the cited material. | Official material covers sources and YouTube streaming; the local-file loop controls are not established in the cited material. |
| YouTube streaming | Supported, according to PRISM’s FAQ. | Connecting to YouTube and going live are covered in Streamlabs’ setup material. |
| Resolution handling | PRISM advises matching media resolution to transmission resolution to avoid unnecessary loss from downscaling. Its guide illustrates a 2K source being downscaled for a 1080p output; this is an example, not a performance test. | The cited setup material does not provide a comparable rule for this use. |
| Operating system | PRISM’s desktop page lists Windows 10/11 64-bit and Apple Silicon macOS Monterey 12.3 or later. | Streamlabs’ May 2026 quick-start guide lists Windows 11 or macOS 12 as minimums, and Windows 11 or macOS 13 or later as recommended. |
These compatibility details come from vendor pages and are version-sensitive. Confirm current requirements before installing: PRISM desktop page, PRISM desktop getting-started guide, and Streamlabs Desktop quick-start guide.
Choose based on the controls you can verify in the version you will use: repeat or restart behavior, what happens at end of file, audio at the seam, resolution handling, and whether your operating system is supported. The documentation available here is not enough to rank the apps on unattended looping.

Verify the loop before going live
- Add the video as a media source. In PRISM, use Media Source; its documentation confirms local video playback. In Streamlabs Desktop, use the current source controls and confirm that the file can be selected and played. The cited Streamlabs material does not establish exact local-file loop steps.
- Find and test repeat behavior. Look in the media source’s current controls for repeat or loop options. If there is no explicit control, do not assume the file will restart when it ends.
- Watch a complete playback cycle. Confirm whether playback stops, restarts, or leaves a blank source at the end. Listen for silence, clipped audio, or an abrupt change at the seam.
- Check output resolution. Match the video’s resolution to the stream output where practical. PRISM recommends this to avoid unnecessary downscaling; its 2K-to-1080p illustration is an example, not a benchmark.
- Preview the scene and stream status. Confirm the video and audio are present in the intended scene, the stream is connected to YouTube, and playback continues through the file ending before leaving the setup unattended.
- Check rights and YouTube rules. Use video and audio you have the rights to stream. The software setup documentation cited above does not establish YouTube’s current rules for long-running prerecorded live streams, permitted duration, or treatment of reused content. Check current YouTube Help before broadcasting.
Operating-system and setup caveats
PRISM’s desktop page lists Windows 10/11 64-bit and Apple Silicon macOS Monterey 12.3 or later; its getting-started documentation also says macOS support is Apple Silicon only and describes Windows hardware profiles. Streamlabs’ May 2026 quick-start guide lists Windows 11 or macOS 12 minimums, with Windows 11 or macOS 13 or later recommended. Because software requirements can change, use each vendor’s current download and setup pages as the final check rather than treating these published figures as timeless.
