Keep your PS5 Slim in an open, uncluttered spot, leave at least 10 cm of free space around it, and keep its vents clear of dust and obstructions. Sony’s guidance is about placement and basic maintenance; it does not promise a particular temperature drop or establish that cooling accessories improve airflow.
Choose a spot with room for airflow
Sony’s PS5 safety guidance says to keep the console at least 10 cm from a wall and not to block its vents. PlayStation’s fan-noise troubleshooting advice separately calls for at least 10 cm of free space around each side. - Use a stable, open surface rather than a narrow or cramped space.
- Avoid carpet or rugs with long fibres, and do not cover the console with cloth.
- Keep objects and other obstructions away from the vents.
An enclosed cabinet is not automatically suitable just because the console fits. Sony advises against cramped spaces and does not certify particular cabinet designs, so assess whether the console has the recommended clearance and whether anything blocks its vents.
Remove dust safely
If dust is collecting around the vents, Sony recommends a handheld vacuum; PlayStation support specifies a low-powered vacuum for dust in and around them. The guidance supports removing dust near the vents, not opening the console to clean its interior.

- Turn the PS5 Slim off and disconnect its AC cable before cleaning.
- Use a handheld vacuum on a low-power setting to remove dust around the vents.
- If you need to remove a cover, first turn the console off, unplug the AC cord and other cables, and let it cool. Follow the manual for your exact model rather than assuming every PS5 model has identical cover-removal instructions.

Understand when fan noise is normal
PlayStation says the fan may run louder during some games and applications because it temporarily speeds up to cool the system more effectively. Fan noise on its own does not establish a hardware fault. If the noise remains unusually loud after you clear obstructions and dust, follow PlayStation’s troubleshooting guidance and contact support if the issue is unresolved: PS5 console noise support.

Use the correct feet; do not assume accessories improve cooling
Sony identifies CFI-2000 as the PS5 Slim model group and instructs owners to attach the appropriate feet before use. The setup guidance does not say that a vertical stand, aftermarket cooling stand, or clip-on fan improves cooling. For setup details, see the PS5 setup guide.
