When Xbox Game Pass ends, access to games from its library ends when the subscription expires or is canceled, or when a game leaves the catalog. That does not establish that your save data is deleted: the Xbox information cited here does not specify what happens to saves after a subscription ends. Treat game access and save retention as separate questions.
What happens to games from the Game Pass library?
Xbox says subscribers can access games in the library until the subscription is canceled or expires, or the game leaves the library. The catalog changes, and available titles can vary by region, plan and platform. Check the current Game Pass library for the title and the circumstances that apply to you.
If you cancel recurring billing, check the end date shown in your account rather than assuming access stops immediately. The cancellation flow and account details determine what timing applies to you.
Will you lose your saves?
The Xbox pages cited here do not state whether cloud saves remain accessible after Game Pass expires, nor do they give a save-retention rule for individual games. Losing subscription access to a game is not, by itself, evidence that its save data has been deleted. These sources also do not guarantee that a save will be available if you later buy the game.

If continuing a particular save matters, check current Xbox support information and the game’s guidance for your platform before canceling. Do not rely on an assumption of either deletion or permanent retention.
Can you keep playing by buying a game?
Potentially, if the title is offered for purchase on your platform. Xbox also says select cloud-playable games that are not included with Game Pass can be streamed when you own or buy them. This is not a promise that every Game Pass game is sold separately, available on every platform, or eligible for cloud play.

What affects cloud play?
Xbox lists an eligible subscription, supported game, supported device and supported region as cloud-play requirements, with a separate exception for select free-to-play games. Buying a game does not restore Game Pass-only benefits or guarantee every cloud feature. Availability can vary by region, plan, platform and device; check Xbox’s cloud gaming information for current conditions.

Before your subscription ends
- Check the end date. Use the date shown in your Xbox account to understand how long your subscription-library access is expected to last.
- Check the game’s status. Confirm whether it is still in the Game Pass library for your region, plan and platform.
- Check purchase availability. If you want to continue playing without the subscription, confirm that the title is available to buy on your platform.
- Verify save guidance. For a save you cannot afford to lose, consult current Xbox support information and the game’s platform-specific guidance; the cited Xbox pages do not settle post-expiry save access.
