How the four plans compare
Xbox advertises different catalog sizes for each plan, but those counts are headline figures—not a promise that every listed game is available in your region or on every device. Xbox says titles, counts, features, and availability vary over time, by region, plan, and platform. Check the current plan page for your market before subscribing.

Which plan fits how you play?
Choose Essential for a smaller console catalog and multiplayer
Essential is the entry option if you mainly want a selection of included games, online console multiplayer, and in-game benefits. Xbox lists 50+ games and 5 monthly cloud hours on its US Cloud Gaming page. It is not the listed choice for day-one Xbox releases or a broad cloud allowance.

Choose Premium if you can wait for Xbox-published releases
Premium offers a larger advertised catalog—200+ games—and cloud access. Xbox says new Xbox-published games arrive within 12 months of launch, so Premium is not the day-one tier. The US Cloud Gaming page displays 10 hours per month.
Choose Ultimate if you will use the bundled extras
Ultimate combines the largest advertised library (500+ games) with day-one releases, EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics. Xbox also describes its cloud service as offering the best streaming quality and shortest waits. Its value depends on whether you will actually use those extras; the cloud-hour descriptions differ between Xbox’s current US pages.

Choose PC Game Pass for Windows PC play
PC Game Pass is the PC-focused option, with 300+ PC games, day-one releases, and EA Play. Xbox’s overview says cloud gaming is not included. If you also need console access or cloud play, compare the current plan details rather than assuming this plan includes Ultimate’s broader bundle.
Devices, streaming, and multiplayer details
Downloads and cloud play are different ways to access games
Xbox’s comparison lists console and Windows PC downloads for relevant plans, and cloud streaming on supported phones, tablets, TVs, VR headsets, and browsers. Access depends on the plan and supported device; check compatibility for the specific device and game. Cloud play requires a supported device and compatible controller, so a controller is relevant to some streaming setups, not a universal Game Pass requirement.

A subscription is not required for every online multiplayer game
Xbox lists online console multiplayer with the plans shown in its comparison. However, Xbox says multiplayer access for free-to-play games is open to every Xbox player. Do not assume that a subscription is required to play every online game.

Xbox’s comparison says subscriptions automatically continue according to the selected plan. The current US page material does not establish a reliable dollar price, so check Xbox’s purchase flow for the price, renewal interval, and terms in your market before deciding. Plan names, included games, cloud limits, and availability can change.
