To download a PlayStation Plus game, open the matching Monthly Games or Game Catalog section on your console, select an eligible title, then choose Download. The game installs automatically. Monthly games are included with all three PS Plus plans; the Game Catalog requires Extra or Premium.
Check which PS Plus section includes the game
Monthly games and the Game Catalog are separate benefits, so start by checking the game’s listing and your membership tier. PlayStation says monthly games are available to download and play during an active membership, with new games added each calendar month. The Game Catalog is included with Extra and Premium, not Essential. Classics Catalog and cloud streaming are Premium benefits. Catalog titles and benefits can vary by region, and catalog availability can change; check the current listing in your local PlayStation service.

Plan benefits are listed in PlayStation’s membership comparison. A title may still be unavailable in your region or may no longer be in a catalog, so confirm its current eligibility before downloading.
How to download monthly games on PS5
- From Games home, scroll right to PlayStation Plus.
- Open the Benefits tab, then select Monthly Games.
- Highlight an eligible game and select Download.
PlayStation describes monthly games as “Monthly games are games available for you to download and play at no extra cost during your PlayStation Plus membership.” The available selection is updated monthly; check the console’s local PlayStation Plus screen for current titles. Where to find monthly games on PS4
- From the function screen, scroll right to PlayStation Plus.
- Select Monthly Games.
- Highlight a game, then choose Add to Library > Download.
The membership must remain active to play monthly games. PlayStation’s monthly games support page explains the benefit and console steps.
How to download a Game Catalog title on PS5 or PS4
First confirm that your membership is Extra or Premium and that the title is currently available in your region.

- Go to Benefits > Game Catalog.
- Select an eligible game and choose Download.
PS4
- From the function screen, open PlayStation Plus.
- Choose Game Catalog.
- Select an eligible game and choose Download.
Titles downloaded through Plus can also be found in Game Library. Menu names may differ slightly by region or system software version. PlayStation’s Game Catalog page describes the catalog and eligible plans.
What happens after you select Download?
The console downloads and installs the game automatically. Some games let you start playing a portion while the remaining data downloads. For a standard Store download outside the subscription-specific menus, use Game Library > Your Collection on PS5, or Library > Purchased on PS4, select the game, and choose Download. For Plus games, use Monthly Games or Game Catalog first so you can verify that the game is included and eligible. See PlayStation’s download instructions.

Start a download remotely
You can queue a download from a web browser or the PlayStation App. For the download to start immediately, automatic downloads must be configured on the console. Otherwise, it begins the next time the console is turned on. The PS5 must be logged into the account, or the PS4 must be activated as that account’s primary console; App downloads also require the console to be linked. Follow PlayStation’s remote download setup instructions and monthly games guidance.

Streaming is optional and is not required to download or install a game. PlayStation’s U.S. support page lists a minimum 5 Mbps broadband speed for PlayStation Plus catalog streaming and says 15 Mbps is needed for 1080p; 1080p also depends on the game supporting that resolution, and the resolution may drop if the connection falls below 15 Mbps. Its PS5 cloud-streaming page separately specifies minimum upload and download speeds of 5 Mbps. Saved data is handled differently between the two play methods: downloaded-game saves are stored on the console, while streamed-game save data is stored on PlayStation. Moving a save between downloaded and streamed play requires cloud storage steps; it does not transfer automatically. See PlayStation’s save-transfer instructions.

Why a PS Plus game may not appear
- You are looking in the wrong section. Check Monthly Games for monthly offers and Game Catalog for catalog titles.
- Your plan does not include it. Monthly games are included with Essential, Extra, and Premium; Game Catalog access requires Extra or Premium.
- The offer or catalog listing has changed. Check the current regional PlayStation listing; catalog games are not necessarily permanent or offered everywhere.
- Your membership is inactive. Monthly games are playable during an active membership.
- The menu labels differ. PlayStation notes that interface labels and benefits can vary by region and software version; check your console’s PlayStation Plus and Game Library screens.
