Start with the credits for the specific series, episode, film, or game release, then use specialist databases to find leads and verify the person’s identity and role. A credit supports a precise claim that someone was listed for a particular job on a particular work; it does not show how much they contributed or prove that an unlisted person was uninvolved.
Define exactly what you want to verify
Pin down the work and the scope of the claim before searching. “Worked on the franchise” may refer to a single episode, a theatrical film, or one game release—not every installment.
- For a series, note the season and episode if relevant.
- For a film, identify the specific film rather than the franchise generally.
- For a game, record the platform, edition, and release where possible. Ports, remasters, and regional versions can have different credit records.
Check the work-specific credit first
Look at the work’s end credits, official studio or production pages, broadcaster staff pages, or the game’s own credits or manual. These are the strongest starting points because they tie a name and role to a particular production. If the credit sequence is your source, capture the relevant frame and note the version or date shown.
Official examples include KONAMI animation’s project pages, which list staff by production role for selected animation projects; Yomiuri TV’s Detective Conan staff page; and ZAN’s pilot-film credits, which include roles such as storyboard, direction, character design, and key animation. These illustrate what official staff pages can establish, but the detail available varies by work.

Use credit databases to find and cross-check leads
Anime credits
Anilink describes searching across anime works, staff, and studios, including episode-level credit data. Its site says that during its pre-release period anyone can search, while detailed credit information is limited to industry users. Treat a database result as a lead, then compare it with a work-specific or official record when one is available.
Game credits
MobyGames person pages organize game credits by credited person and role, with games and platforms shown. For example, its Hiroshi Yugen profile illustrates how credited name forms and game roles may appear, while the Hiroshi Noguchi profile shows entries attached to specific games and platforms. These are examples of database structure, not proof that every entry is complete or verified against the original game credits.

Make sure the name refers to the right person
A name match alone can be misleading. Creators may be credited in kanji, kana, romanization, under an alias, or with different spacing. Search alternate forms when known, then compare contextual details such as role, studio, collaborators, time period, and the work itself. Be especially cautious with common names and pseudonyms.
Keep the role and scope precise
Preserve the source’s role wording where possible. A general series staff page is not the same as an episode-specific credit, and a game entry for one platform or release does not automatically establish involvement in its ports or remasters. If a source does not identify the episode or version, say that plainly rather than implying a more specific credit than it shows.

When sources differ, compare their authority, granularity, identity certainty, role wording, version coverage, and stated completeness. An official work-specific credit generally carries more weight than a secondary index, but even an official list may cover only the roles or people it names.

A careful conclusion names the person, exact role, and specific work, and makes clear what source supports it. For example: “The official staff page lists X as [role] on [specific work].” If only a secondary index supports the claim, qualify it: “The game-credit database lists X under [role] for the [platform/year] release; I could not corroborate that entry in the game’s own credits.”

Do not infer that someone created an entire series from one credit, or that they had no involvement because a database has no entry. A credit establishes what the record lists—not the amount of work performed, whether the record is complete, or whether uncredited contributions occurred.
