For a compact PC setup, IKEA’s UTVISNING is a useful size reference at 47 1/4 × 23 5/8 inches; it includes a monitor shelf and cable-management features. It is not a guarantee that every small room—or every two-monitor layout—will fit.
1. Decide what the station needs to do
Before choosing furniture, identify the gaming mode and the people using the space. IKEA’s UK small-room guide advises planning around who will play and what the room can accommodate. Make a short equipment list so the desk or storage is sized for actual use:
- PC: monitor or monitors, tower, keyboard, mouse and headset.
- Console: display, console, controllers and headset; decide whether seating will be at a desk or elsewhere in the room.
- Shared use: note whether more than one player needs a seat, controls or reachable storage at the same time.
For a TV-based console setup, IKEA suggests considering a TV bench with storage and built-in cable management. For PC play, choose a desk that holds the essentials without taking over the room. 2. Measure the spot, including the space around the furniture
Measure the usable wall width and floor depth, then compare those figures with the complete desk footprint—not just the tabletop. IKEA lists its compact UTVISNING gaming desk at 47 1/4 inches wide by 23 5/8 inches deep. Treat those dimensions as a reference point and check the exact product page before purchasing. Also check baseboards, outlet locations, door and drawer swings, chair pull-back room, and the path cables will take to power and the display. Leave practical access to assemble and clean behind the station. IKEA’s cited guidance does not specify a minimum room size or a universal clearance figure, so measure the actual room and furniture rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all number.
3. Choose a desk for the gear and available footprint
UTVISNING: a compact PC-oriented option
IKEA describes UTVISNING as intended for compact play. Its listed features include a monitor shelf, space to slide the keyboard and mouse beneath the shelf when not in use, a cable-management tray, two headphone hooks and straps to suspend a computer tower. IKEA says the shelf can hold up to two 24-inch flat screens. That is the manufacturer’s stated capacity, not a promise that every pair of displays will fit well: check each monitor’s base dimensions, how the screens sit together, and whether their resulting position gives you a comfortable sightline. Also confirm the desktop and shelf arrangement works for your tower, peripherals and preferred playing position.
UTESPELARE: more surface area, more room required
IKEA’s US UTESPELARE example measures 63 × 31 1/2 inches—substantially wider and deeper than UTVISNING. IKEA describes a mesh rear section intended to allow airflow and manual height adjustment across six positions, approximately 26 3/4 to 30 3/4 inches in the measurements section of its product page. When both could fit, decide by the actual equipment layout, cable routing, tower position and needed work surface—not by the gaming label alone. Verify current measurements and details on the product page for your market.
4. Match the chair and storage to how the room is used
Choose seating around the person and play style. IKEA’s UK guide distinguishes console seating priorities such as softness, support and easy movement from PC chair features such as castors, headrest, seat depth, lumbar support, armrests and tilt tension. It identifies mesh as the most breathable among the upholstery categories it compares and describes MATCHSPEL as having a mesh back and easy-to-wipe coated-fabric seat. In a small room, furniture that moves or serves more than one purpose can preserve usable floor space. Use a built-in cable route when the desk has one, gather power and signal leads so they do not catch on chair movement, and keep outlets reachable. UTVISNING’s cable tray is intended to gather cables and sockets; IKEA’s small-room guide likewise recommends built-in cable management as a useful feature. Check that the planned route reaches the outlet without blocking access or creating a snag point.

If daylight falls across the display, IKEA’s US setup gallery recommends room-darkening curtains to manage glare and a directed work lamp beside the desk.
