Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →For a coding tutorial stream in OBS, start with YouTube Live’s encoder guidance: use CBR, set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds, and choose a bitrate that your upload connection can sustain reliably. YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations are 14 Mbps for 1080p30, 17 Mbps for 1080p60, and 8 Mbps for either 720p30 or 720p60. Those settings help avoid preventable ingest problems; they cannot guarantee that a computer, network, or stream will stay online continuously.
Recommended OBS settings for YouTube Live
These values apply to H.264 RTMP/RTMPS streams and reflect YouTube’s current guidance, accessed in 2026. YouTube also accepts H.265 (HEVC) and AV1, whose recommended bitrates differ; consult its encoder table if you choose either codec.
| Output resolution and frame rate | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate | YouTube minimum H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not a guarantee that your internet connection can maintain the bitrate or that viewers will receive the same quality. Use the recommended bitrate only if your upload connection can sustain it consistently.
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate).
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Protocol: RTMPS is recommended by YouTube; it encrypts stream data on its way to and through Google’s servers.
- Codec and frame rate: YouTube accepts H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS streams, with frame rates up to 60 fps.
For official details, see YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and the OBS Project’s streaming guidance.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose a resolution and frame rate for code legibility
Choose output settings based on how viewers will read the editor, terminal, and demonstrations—not simply the highest available resolution. Compare the legibility of text at the intended display size, the bitrate your connection can sustain, your computer’s encoding headroom, and whether the tutorial’s on-screen motion benefits from 60 fps. There is no evidence that every coding tutorial needs 60 fps.
When to use 1080p
Use 1080p when the interface and code need the extra detail and your connection and computer can sustain the corresponding bitrate. For H.264, YouTube recommends 14 Mbps at 30 fps or 17 Mbps at 60 fps.

When to use 720p
720p can be a practical choice when your upload capacity or encoding headroom is more limited. YouTube’s H.264 recommendation is 8 Mbps at both 30 and 60 fps. Check that code remains readable in a representative test before settling on it.

- Check upload capacity. Run an upload speed test, as YouTube recommends. Select a bitrate your connection can sustain reliably rather than treating the minimum ingest figure as a safe target.
- Prepare the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream, then retrieve its stream URL and stream key from the encoder setup. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Connect OBS. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and connect your account or enter the server and stream key supplied by YouTube. Use RTMPS where the current YouTube/OBS setup offers it.
- Set the output. In Settings > Output, use the streaming output controls to select H.264 and CBR, then enter the bitrate appropriate for your resolution and frame rate. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. OBS may expose these controls differently depending on output mode and encoder.
- Set the video mode. In Settings > Video, choose a canvas and output resolution that preserve readable code, and set 30 or 60 fps according to the tutorial’s motion and the machine’s capacity.
- Test before the scheduled stream. Include audio and screen movement similar to the real tutorial. YouTube explicitly advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Check the preview, audio levels, and stream health before relying on the setup.
Make a 24/7 coding stream more dependable
OBS settings alone cannot make a nonstop stream reliable. YouTube’s guidance recommends a connection test and monitoring stream health; OBS’s platform guidance likewise emphasizes meeting the platform’s requested keyframe interval. YouTube transcodes incoming live streams into multiple viewer output formats, but that does not prevent failures at the creator’s computer or network.
- Run a representative test long enough to expose encoding load, dropped frames, audio issues, or connection instability.
- During the broadcast, monitor YouTube Studio’s stream health and act on its messages.
- Keep the computer’s encoding workload within its capacity while capturing the editor and any demos. The available guidance does not establish whether software encoding or a particular hardware encoder is best for your machine.
- Consider a wired Ethernet connection as an optional setup choice, not a requirement or guaranteed fix for outages. YouTube’s documentation calls for testing network capacity but does not promise that a cable resolves interruptions.
- Plan for interruptions: a restart, power loss, computer failure, or internet outage can still take the stream offline. No continuous-uptime guarantee is established for OBS settings themselves.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a pre-recorded coding tutorial to loop continuously without leaving a home computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud option for YouTube. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; the monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a live camera feed.
