To stream a looping video at a scheduled time, create the scheduled event in YouTube Studio, then use an encoder to send a video or playlist that repeats. Scheduling the event does not make the video loop: the encoder supplies the live feed. You can start the event manually after checking its preview, or use auto-start if it is enabled for that event.
Before you schedule
- Enable YouTube live streaming. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours; this is a possible delay, not a typical measured wait. See YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Choose an encoder that can repeat the source. It must be able to play your local video or playlist continuously and send it as a live feed. OBS is one software option. The repeat setting belongs to the encoder or media source, not the YouTube watch page.
- Plan who will start and monitor the event. The standard YouTube flow involves checking the incoming preview and clicking Go live. If you need an unattended start, confirm auto-start is enabled for the actual event rather than assuming scheduling turns it on.
Schedule the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and choose Create → Go Live.
- Open the Manage tab and select Schedule stream.
- Choose whether to reuse settings or create a new event. Set the scheduled date and time, title, description, audience and other event details.
- Save the event. YouTube provides a watch page for a scheduled stream; share it ahead of time so viewers can find it and opt in to notifications.
- Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room and locate its stream URL and stream key. You will enter these in the encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: do not post or share it publicly.
YouTube’s current interface may label or arrange controls differently over time. Its encoder setup guidance is available at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Set the video or playlist to repeat in your encoder
- Open your encoder and add the video file or playlist you want viewers to see. Confirm that the file plays correctly and that the encoder can repeat it when it reaches the end.
- Enable the encoder’s repeat or loop behavior for the media source or playlist. This is separate from scheduling the YouTube event. Exact controls depend on the encoder and version; consult that encoder’s current documentation for the menu-level steps.
- Choose the event’s YouTube connection. If the encoder offers a YouTube sign-in or event picker, select the scheduled event. Otherwise, enter the event’s stream URL as the server and paste its stream key in the key field.
- Save the encoder settings and check that the source is playing and the outgoing connection is configured for the scheduled event.
Start the feed and bring the event live
- At or before the scheduled time, start streaming from the encoder. This sends the looping video feed to YouTube; it does not necessarily make the event publicly live yet.
- Wait for the incoming preview to appear in YouTube Live Control Room. Check that the expected video and audio are present.
- For the standard manual flow, click Go live in Live Control Room when you are ready. YouTube also supports automatic start behavior, but confirm the setting on this stream if you expect the event to go live without that click. - Keep the encoder sending the feed for as long as you want the broadcast to continue. A scheduled start time does not keep a local encoder or its computer running.
End the stream and handle the archive
When the broadcast is finished, stop the event deliberately in YouTube and then stop the encoder feed. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not establish that a longer loop will be saved as one complete replay, so do not rely on a single full-length archive for a stream lasting 12 hours or more. See YouTube Help.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
- Use video, music and other material you own or have permission to stream. A video being prerecorded or repeated does not remove copyright obligations.
- Check the rights for every item in a playlist, including background music, artwork and clips. A claim or restriction can affect a live broadcast or its archive.
- Make sure the stream offers value consistent with YouTube’s channel and monetization policies. Repeating content is not, by itself, proof that a channel meets monetization requirements.
- Review YouTube’s current rules and any notices shown in Studio before scheduling content whose rights or eligibility are uncertain.
Troubleshooting
The event is scheduled, but no video appears
Scheduling creates the event, not the incoming feed. Start the encoder, verify that it is playing the intended source, and confirm that it is connected with this event’s stream URL and stream key. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room.

The encoder connects, but the video does not repeat
Check the repeat or loop control on the encoder’s media source or playlist. YouTube does not control that behavior. Confirm that the source remains loaded and that the encoder is still running after the file reaches its end.
The feed reaches YouTube, but the event does not go live at the scheduled time
A scheduled time is not a guarantee that the event will publish itself. Check for the preview in Live Control Room and click Go live unless auto-start has been enabled and verified for the event. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes the preview-and-start workflow.

Live streaming is not available yet
If this is the channel’s first time streaming, YouTube says enabling live streaming may take up to 24 hours. Enable it ahead of the event rather than waiting until the scheduled start.
The stream runs longer than expected, or the archive is incomplete
Stop the broadcast and encoder when you intend to finish. YouTube’s stated automatic archive condition applies to streams under 12 hours; its guidance does not promise a single complete archive for longer streams.
