There is no evidence-backed item counter build or proven six-hero composition for Rat King yet. The clearest responses in the October 3, 2026 patch are to dash to shed his attached rats, melee Scrap Grenade away, and account for Royal Pestments before committing. In Deadlock Labs’ October 4 ranked-data snapshot, Sinclair, Haze, and Vindicta had unfavorable matchup deltas against Rat King; those figures are provisional, not guaranteed counter-picks.
What counters Rat King right now?
Use the available ability responses first, then treat hero statistics as a draft hint rather than a recipe. Rat King became playable in the October 3, 2026 patch, so matchup data is an early snapshot and may change quickly.
- Rat Swarm: use a ground or air dash to shake off attached rats before they continue biting.
- Scrap Grenade: melee the grenade to knock it away; it detonates multiple times and slows nearby enemies.
- Royal Pestments: recognize the temporary barrier and possible bullet deflection before committing attacks. The patch description does not establish an optimal purchase or exact timing to break through it.
These are the documented mechanical answers. The available sources do not establish a definitive item-by-item counter build.
Which heroes have unfavorable matchups against Rat King?
Deadlock Labs’ ranked matchup display, observed October 4, 2026, lists these negative matchup win-rate deltas against Rat King:

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Hero | Matchup win-rate delta |
|---|---|
| Sinclair | -8.1% |
| Haze | -3.6% |
| Vindicta | -2.3% |
Deadlock Labs says its matchup deltas use ranked matches with at least 50 head-to-head samples. The figures are third-party measurements, not official balance rankings, and the page refreshes every 15 minutes. They do not guarantee an advantage in every skill bracket, role, or team context. See Deadlock Labs’ Rat King stats and counters for the live display.
What do the team-composition statistics mean?
The same October 4 snapshot lists Victor (+12.0%) and Mo & Krill (+8.8%) as Rat King’s strongest duo synergies. These are observed pair-performance deltas when those heroes are teammates of Rat King; they are not evidence that Victor or Mo & Krill counter him.

For a team facing Rat King, use the reported unfavorable matchups only when they fit your team’s roles and plan. Coordinate around the specific ability responses—dash away attached rats, knock the grenade aside with a melee, and avoid treating the barrier as ordinary exposed health. No available source establishes a complete six-player counter composition or a definitive draft order.
How to read Rat King’s kit when planning a response
The October 3 patch archive identifies Rat King as a Brawler with the Sovereign’s Decree weapon and four abilities. These details explain why his pressure is not answered by one generic purchase.

Scrap Grenade
The grenade detonates multiple times, deals bullet damage, and slows. Its documented counterplay is to melee it away; Tier 3 adds a larger final detonation.
Rat Swarm
Rats leap onto enemies, deal spirit damage over time, and reduce Bullet Resist with each bite. More attached rats bite faster, while a ground or air dash can remove them early.

Royal Pestments
This ability creates a barrier based on Rat King’s maximum health and can return bullets while it holds. Its Tier 3 upgrade limits all damage taken per hit and increases the maximum-health conversion to barrier. The patch archive describes these mechanics but does not quantify an optimal counter purchase.
Rule, Ratannia!
Rat King charges and summons a banner. Nearby allies gain move speed, slow immunity, and reduced incoming damage; the patch summary also describes damage and knock-up or slow effects around the banner event. Plan for the nearby team’s empowered movement and resilience rather than focusing only on Rat King.

Deadlock Labs reported a 59.4% win rate across 27,656 tracked matches in its October 4, 2026 snapshot. The source says the display refreshes every 15 minutes, so this is a time-bound third-party observation, not a stable estimate of Rat King’s long-term strength. Its matchup and duo deltas should be read with the same caution.
