Should you remove your GPU before moving your PC?
Yes, if you can do so safely. ASUS Support advises: “Due to the weight of the graphics card, it is recommended to remove it for separate packaging before transporting it to prevent damage to the card within the chassis during transit.” See ASUS’s graphics-card installation and removal guidance and follow the instructions for your specific card, PC and motherboard.
Removing the card means it is no longer exposed to movement through the chassis while the computer is being transported. The available guidance does not establish a safe weight threshold or comparative test results for moving a PC with the card installed.
Choose based on what you can handle safely

How to remove the graphics card safely

- Remove the card only if you can follow those instructions and handle it without forcing components. If you cannot, leave it installed and transport the chassis carefully.
- Once removed, pack the card separately using a sturdy corrugated box and cushioning that supports it and prevents it from shifting.
How to pack a graphics card for shipping or transport
ASUS’s product packaging instructions are written for service shipments. They are useful manufacturer guidance for packing a card, not a guarantee that a particular package meets every carrier’s requirements or every moving situation.

Prepare a sturdy box
- Choose a sturdy corrugated box. ASUS recommends double- or triple-layer corrugated cardboard for high-end, heavy graphics cards.
- Leave approximately 6 cm between the card and the box’s inner walls or corners. ASUS gives this as packaging guidance, not as a measured safety guarantee.
Cushion and immobilize the card
- Put foam, bubble cushioning or another suitable material beneath the card. The bottom padding should support its weight.
- Wrap and secure the card, adding protection around the PCB and components, including the bracket.
- Fill the gaps around and above the card so it cannot move inside the box.
Seal the package
Use wide tape over the box’s top and bottom seams. ASUS warns against shipping a graphics card in a delivery bag without a protective box.
What if you cannot remove the card?
Keep the card installed and move the chassis carefully. An internal holder may support the graphics card against sagging or bending caused by its own weight during normal use. ASUS notes that whether a holder is included varies by graphics-card model; its holder installation guidance describes an in-case support role, not a transport method. The cited ASUS guidance does not establish that a holder or expanding packing foam makes an installed heavy card safe for transit.

What the packing guidance does not specify
ASUS’s cited instructions do not establish a universal orientation for the PC or card, a temperature acclimation period, a preferred carrier or insurance level, or a method for securing internal foam in an assembled computer. Follow any requirements from your chosen carrier rather than treating the ASUS packaging page as a complete carrier standard.
