For Netflix, HBO Max, and Disney+, the best streaming device is the one that supports all three services in your region and fits your TV, budget, and preferred ecosystem. Check your TV’s built-in apps first; if you need a separate player, the Roku Streaming Stick 4K and the second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max are compact options with documented 4K capabilities. Neither is a universal winner, and 4K playback depends on the service plan, title, and every part of your TV setup.
What streaming device works with Netflix, HBO Max, and Disney+?
Several mainstream platform families appear in the services’ device guidance, but support depends on the specific model and your territory. Disney+ lists Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV (4th generation and later), and Roku devices; HBO Max’s device guidance includes Fire TV and Google/Android TV options. Netflix’s Roku support page specifically includes the Roku Streaming Stick 4K (3820X). Check each service’s current local device-support page before buying, especially if you are considering a particular generation or model.
If your TV already has working, up-to-date apps for all three services, you may not need a separate player. The support information establishes compatibility for listed devices; it does not show that every built-in TV app is equally current or responsive.

Do you need a 4K streaming device?
Only if you can use its higher-resolution output and want it. A device’s 4K or HDR label does not guarantee that every program will play in that format. For HBO Max, the Premium plan permits select titles in 4K UHD, HDR10, or Dolby Vision. The service says it automatically plays the highest quality available for the device and subscription plan. HBO Max’s 4K help page
Roku states that “4K/Dolby Vision/HDR10+ playback requires compatible TV and content.” For HBO Max 4K, the connected equipment must support HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2. That requirement applies across the signal chain, including the TV, player, receiver, cables, adapters, and other connected equipment. Check the weakest link as well as the title and plan.

How to choose for your setup
- Check your TV first. Open its app store or home screen and confirm that Netflix, HBO Max, and Disney+ are available and usable in your region. If they meet your needs, you can skip buying another device.
- Confirm exact-model support. Look up the specific player—not just its platform family—on each service’s current support page. A listing for one model or generation does not establish support for every device with a similar name.
- Match picture and sound formats to your equipment. Compare the formats the player advertises with your TV and any receiver or adapter in the connection path. For HBO Max 4K, also check your plan and whether the title is offered in 4K.
- Choose the platform and form factor you want. A stick plugs into HDMI; the Google TV Streamer is a box-style option. Consider whether Roku, Fire TV, Google TV, or Apple’s ecosystem suits your household, and check available connections on the exact product.
- Verify the generation and local listing. Product names and specifications can change. Confirm the model year, regional availability, and current app support before purchase.
