Sony describes Quick Spectral Super Resolution as a library developers can integrate into individual games. The first announced games with QSSR patches are Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei; broader availability to developers means more games may adopt it, not that all existing PS5 titles already support it.
Which PS5 games support QSSR?
In its October 1, 2026 announcement, Sony named two initial games receiving QSSR patches:
- Marvel’s Wolverine
- Ghost of Yōtei
Sony says QSSR will be offered broadly to PlayStation developers. That makes future adoption possible, but each studio must integrate the library into its game. Support is therefore title-specific, rather than a console-wide feature that switches on for every PS5 game. Sony did not state that the initial list covers every supported title, so check a game’s current official patch notes for later additions.
Sony’s QSSR announcement describes QSSR as an additional graphics option in the first two games. It does not establish that every future game will use the same toggle or menu wording.

What is QSSR?
QSSR stands for Quick Spectral Super Resolution. Sony describes it as a new performance tier of AI upscaling, developed from Project Amethyst, its AI graphics collaboration with AMD. Sony attributes the PS5 implementation to a streamlined neural-network architecture and a hand-tuned implementation.
AI upscaling reconstructs or enhances image detail as a game renders its picture. For QSSR specifically, Sony says the goal is improved image detail and stability. Those descriptions explain the intended visual benefit; they do not establish a particular resolution, frame rate, or measurable improvement in every game.

Does QSSR improve performance or image quality?
Sony’s announcement describes improvements to image detail and image stability on PS5, but it publishes no quantitative QSSR test results. It does not report frame-rate gains, latency, internal or output resolution, or a measured image-quality difference. There is therefore no supported figure for how much faster or sharper a QSSR-enabled game will be.
The announcement includes comments from the developers of the two initial games. Insomniac Games’ Head of Technology Mike Fitzgerald says QSSR adds pixel-level clarity and stability to environments in Marvel’s Wolverine. Sucker Punch Productions’ Lead Rendering Engineer Jasmin Patry says it resolves fine details in characters and environments and provides temporal stability in Ghost of Yōtei. These are developer descriptions, not controlled measurements, and they should not be treated as a guarantee of the same result across other games.

Is QSSR the same as PSSR on PS5 Pro?
No. The names and AI-upscaling purpose are related, but Sony’s announcements describe QSSR as a PS5 technology and upgraded PSSR as a PS5 Pro technology. The March 2026 announcement about upgraded PSSR says PS5 Pro owners can enable an optional “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” system setting for existing PS5 Pro games that support PSSR, with results varying by title.
That PS5 Pro setting is not a way to enable QSSR in every base PS5 game. The two technologies should not be conflated when checking compatibility.

How to check whether a particular game has QSSR
- Look for an official PlayStation or developer announcement naming the game and confirming QSSR support.
- Check the game’s latest official patch notes for an update that adds QSSR.
- Open the game’s graphics options after updating and look for a QSSR-related option. The label and location may vary by title; Sony has not promised a single menu layout for all implementations.
A general statement that QSSR is available to developers is not confirmation that a particular game supports it. Sony’s PS5 Pro product page concerns the Pro console; it does not make the Pro’s PSSR setting evidence of QSSR support in a PS5 game.
