For long The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sessions, choose accessories around what runs low or feels inconvenient: a Pro Controller for a separate controller with a long published battery life, a Joy-Con Charging Grip if you want to charge Joy-Con while playing, or Nintendo’s Adjustable Charging Stand for tabletop play near an outlet. A fitted case and screen protector help with travel and storage, but must match your Switch model.
Choose accessories for your play mode
There is no single best setup for every player. Start with how you play and which device needs power, rather than buying every accessory in the category.
| Need | Accessory to consider | What it does | Important condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| A separate controller | Nintendo Switch Pro Controller | Wireless controller; Nintendo lists approximately 40 hours of battery life. | The figure is Nintendo’s approximate specification for the controller, not Switch runtime or an independent test. |
| Joy-Con in a joined grip layout | Joy-Con Charging Grip | Joins left and right Joy-Con and can charge them while you play. | Joy-Con are not included; charging requires the Switch AC adapter or included USB charging cable. |
| Tabletop play while charging | Adjustable Charging Stand | Holds the console at an adjustable viewing angle and allows charging in tabletop mode. | The AC adapter is not included. |
| Travel and storage | Carrying case and screen protector | Protects the console in transit; some Nintendo bundles include a case that can serve as a stand. | Check the exact console model and bundle: screen protectors are not universally interchangeable. |
Best controller options for extended play
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
If you prefer a separate controller to the paired Joy-Con, the Pro Controller is the clearest first-party option to consider. Nintendo’s Australia accessory catalog specifies a 1300 mAh lithium-ion battery and approximately 40 hours of battery life, and lists charging by the specified AC adapter or included USB charging cable. It also lists motion sensors, HD rumble, and NFC. The 40-hour figure is Nintendo’s published approximation, not a measured Tears of the Kingdom session time or a comparison with Joy-Con. Individual comfort varies, so treat the choice as a preference rather than a universal ergonomic upgrade. Nintendo Australia accessory catalog.
Joy-Con Charging Grip
Choose this if you like the Joy-Con layout but want to join the controllers into a grip-style shape and charge them during play. Nintendo says the grip can charge Joy-Con from the Switch AC adapter or its included USB charging cable while in use. It is different from the regular grip bundled with Switch console sets, and the Joy-Con themselves are sold separately. See Nintendo Philippines’ accessory catalog and the Nintendo Australia catalog.

Keep the console powered in tabletop mode
Nintendo’s Adjustable Charging Stand is the directly documented choice when you play tabletop away from the dock and can reach an outlet. It supports an adjustable viewing angle and lets the console charge while you play in tabletop mode. You must supply the Switch AC adapter separately; the stand does not include one. Nintendo describes the stand as enabling longer play sessions, but does not specify a particular increase in runtime. See Nintendo Australia’s product listing.
For handheld play away from an outlet, a USB-C power bank may be a useful category, but compatibility, charging rate, safe-use requirements, and extra runtime depend on the particular power bank and Switch revision. No specific model or runtime is established here, so check product-level compatibility before buying rather than assuming any USB-C battery will suit your setup. Nintendo also lists the Switch AC adapter among its accessories. Nintendo Support’s accessory list.

Protect the Switch you actually own
A case is most useful for storage and travel; some official carrying-case bundles also provide a stand and space for small accessories. Nintendo Australia describes a bundle with an organizer for five game cards and two Joy-Con straps. Its listing cautions that the screen protector in one Switch bundle does not fit the OLED model. Nintendo Philippines separately describes a bundle with protectors for standard Switch and Switch OLED. Check the precise listing and model name before purchase rather than treating “Switch” as one universal fit. Nintendo Australia and Nintendo Philippines.
Check compatibility before buying for Switch 2
Original Switch-family accessories do not all transfer to Switch 2. Nintendo’s compatibility table says original Switch Joy-Con and Pro Controllers can connect wirelessly to Switch 2, but original Joy-Con cannot attach to it. The original Adjustable Charging Stand and dock are marked incompatible. The original AC adapter can charge Switch 2 when connected directly, but cannot power it in TV mode. For storage expansion, Switch 2 is designed for microSD Express; standard microSD cards can only be used to view screenshots and videos captured on the original Switch, according to Nintendo’s table. Confirm the individual accessory and use case against Nintendo’s Switch 2 compatibility information.

A practical buying order
- Decide how you play: handheld, tabletop, or docked. For tabletop charging, start with the Adjustable Charging Stand and your existing Switch AC adapter.
- Choose your controller layout: consider the Pro Controller if you want a separate controller, or the Joy-Con Charging Grip if you want Joy-Con joined and charging during play.
- Add travel protection if needed: match the case and screen protector to standard Switch, OLED, or Lite, and check what the bundle includes.
- Verify generation and region: read the specific product listing and Nintendo compatibility guidance, particularly if buying for Switch 2.
Nintendo’s accessory lists also include straps, docks, headsets, USB LAN adapters, and Joy-Con charging stations. They can be useful for other needs, but are less directly aimed at keeping a solo Zelda session comfortable and powered.
