No. If by “the next one” you mean Halo: Campaign Evolved, you can start there without playing earlier Halo games. It retells the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, which its developers describe as a starting point for new players.
Start with Halo: Campaign Evolved
PlayStation’s official FAQ answers the question directly: “Not at all. This is the original story, where Halo begins.” Xbox likewise says the team designed the remake so newcomers can understand the story from the beginning. PlayStation’s Campaign Evolved page and FAQ and Xbox Wire’s Q&A identify it as a retelling of the first game’s campaign and an entry point, not a continuation that requires knowledge of later games.

- Play older campaigns or explore Halo fiction afterward only if you want more context or time in the universe.
The remake includes the original ten-mission campaign and adds a three-mission arc, Operation: METEORITE. Xbox says that arc takes place a year before the first game’s events and features Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson. It is prequel material attached to the starting story, not a reason to catch up on later games first. Xbox’s launch announcement describes the new missions and their place in the timeline.
If you mean Halo Infinite, that is a different question
Halo Infinite is a separate Master Chief campaign set on Zeta Halo, not the new version of the original campaign. Halo Support describes its campaign as a distinct component, while its multiplayer is free to play. The official material cited here does not say that every earlier game is necessary to understand Infinite, so the newcomer guidance for Campaign Evolved should not be treated as an answer about Infinite.
