Compare Star Wars movies with movies and games with games, and keep critic Metascores separate from User Scores. A Metacritic score is a dated snapshot, so record its review or rating count and the date you checked it before drawing conclusions—especially when comparing a film with a game.
What Metascore and User Score measure
Metacritic describes Metascore as a weighted aggregation of selected critics’ reviews that represents critical consensus. The site separately displays scores submitted by its community as User Scores. These are distinct measures: a User Score is not another version of the critic Metascore, and the two should not be combined or treated as interchangeable. Metacritic outlines its approach on its About Us page.
Metacritic says it selects a diverse group of respected critics, scores their reviews and calculates a weighted average. The site does not establish on that page that every critic review receives equal weight, so do not assume a particular weighting formula beyond what it states.
How to make a useful comparison
- Keep the medium consistent. Rank films against films and games against games. A film’s critic reviews and a game’s critic reviews come from different pools, so their Metascores are not the result of a controlled cross-medium comparison.
- Name the score type. Label each value “Metascore” or “User Score.” Do not put critic and community scores in one ranking as if they measured the same thing.
- Include the count. Report the number of critic reviews for a Metascore or user ratings for a User Score. The count shows how much material the displayed aggregate represents.
- Identify the game edition when relevant. If Metacritic lists a platform or version, record it; review sets may differ between game pages.
- Record when you checked. Scores and counts can change as reviews or ratings are added. Treat figures as snapshots, not permanent facts.
- State the list’s coverage. Say whether you are using a particular Metacritic ranking or only titles represented in its database.

Metacritic’s pages list the game’s reviews and scores and the film’s reviews and scores. The critic values summarize selected professional reviews; the user values summarize community ratings. Their different review pools and rating counts make a direct cross-medium winner claim misleading.

Games: titles in Metacritic’s database
Metacritic’s Star Wars videogame ranking does not cover every game in the franchise. The site notes that many older titles predate its database, including Dark Forces, X-Wing and TIE Fighter titles, and Episode 1 – Racer. Read it as a ranking of represented titles, not a definitive all-time list.

For each title, note: title and medium; score type; score; number of reviews or ratings; game platform/version if applicable; date checked; and the ranking or database scope. Those details make the comparison interpretable and help prevent a changing page snapshot from being mistaken for a timeless verdict.
