Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCheck your exact motherboard model and revision against its official CPU-support list before installing the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. If the installed BIOS is older than the version required for that CPU, update the BIOS while a processor supported by the current firmware is still installed. If the 5800X3D is already installed and the system will not boot, use USB BIOS Flashback only if your board supports it, or install a CPU supported by the existing BIOS so you can update.
Does your motherboard need a BIOS update for the Ryzen 7 5800X3D?
It depends on the motherboard’s current BIOS version—not just its chipset. AMD lists the 5800X3D as an AM4 processor and names X570, X470, B550, B450 and A520 among its supporting chipsets, but those chipset names do not establish the minimum BIOS version for a particular board. Check the exact model and hardware revision on the manufacturer’s CPU-support page. AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D specifications identify the processor and its platform; the motherboard maker’s list determines the board-specific requirement.
Find the 5800X3D entry in that CPU list, note its minimum BIOS version and read any accompanying notes. Download the firmware and instructions from the official support page for that exact board and revision. AMD warns that “If the BIOS does not support the installed processor, the computer may fail to boot.” AMD’s BIOS update guidance recommends getting the update and instructions from the system or motherboard manufacturer.
Update before swapping CPUs if the PC still boots
If the installed processor is supported by the current BIOS and the computer starts normally, update the firmware before removing that CPU. Use the update method documented in your motherboard manual; the menu names and procedure vary by model, so there is no universal sequence to follow.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Identify the board. Read the motherboard model and revision printed on the board, or confirm them through the system vendor. Open the official support page for that exact model and revision.
- Confirm the required release. Find the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in the CPU-support list. Record the minimum BIOS version and check whether the manufacturer requires an intermediate update or lists other instructions.
- Get the correct firmware and instructions. Download the BIOS file from that board’s official support page and follow its manual or update guide. Do not use a file for a similar model or another revision, and do not assume that the newest release is the right choice if the manufacturer’s notes specify requirements.
- Run the documented update. Save important work, keep power stable and do not interrupt the process. Follow the board maker’s directions for its supported update method rather than applying a generic USB format, filename or utility procedure.
- Verify, then shut down. After the board reports completion, check the displayed BIOS version. Shut down and disconnect power as directed by the hardware manual before changing the CPU.
- Install the 5800X3D. Follow the processor and motherboard manuals for the installation. The machine should then start with firmware that meets the board maker’s stated CPU-support requirement.
If the 5800X3D is installed and the system will not boot
Do not assume the CPU is defective: firmware that lacks support may prevent startup. Check these options in order of availability for your situation:
- USB BIOS Flashback: Check the exact motherboard manual for this feature. Some boards can update BIOS from a USB drive without booting, and some can do so without a CPU installed. The required USB port, file name, drive preparation and button timing are manufacturer-specific; use only that board’s instructions. AMD’s update guidance describes the need to follow the system or board maker’s documentation.
- A CPU supported by the current BIOS: If you have access to a compatible older processor, install it, boot the system and update using the board’s documented method. Confirm the update before reinstalling the 5800X3D.
- Retailer or motherboard-maker help: Ask the retailer whether it offers a BIOS update service; availability and any fee depend on the retailer. If that is not an option, contact the motherboard maker for guidance.
- AMD boot-kit option: AMD describes a temporary boot-kit for qualifying users after other workarounds, with eligibility, proof and return requirements. Check AMD’s boot-kit and troubleshooting information for the current conditions; it is not a guaranteed or immediate service for every user.
Why the motherboard model matters more than the chipset name
Two boards using the same chipset can have different BIOS releases, CPU-support entries and update procedures. For example, MSI’s MPG B550 Unify-X support page includes a release description naming 5800X3D support. That is useful only for that board; it does not establish the right version for another B550 model, another MSI board or a board from another manufacturer.
