To play Xbox games through cloud gaming, use the Xbox app on a supported device or visit Xbox.com/play in a supported browser, sign in, choose a cloud-playable game and start streaming. Most catalog games require an eligible Game Pass plan; selected free-to-play games can be played with a free Microsoft account in supported regions. Your exact device, game and country must be supported, and most games need a compatible controller.
What you need before you start
- A supported device and region. Xbox Cloud Gaming is available on several device families, but support depends on the exact model and market. Check Xbox’s current device compatibility and availability information for your country before setting up.
- Access to the game. Most cloud-playable catalog games require Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate. Selected free-to-play games, including Fortnite, can be played with a free Microsoft account in supported regions. Some games you own or buy can also be streamed, but ownership alone does not make every game cloud-playable.
- A compatible input method. Most games require a controller connected by Bluetooth or USB. Selected games offer Xbox touch controls. For TV play, Xbox says compatible Xbox and Sony PlayStation controllers, along with other compatible controllers, can be used.
- A stable internet connection. Xbox gives 10 Mbps download speed as a general minimum; some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality. Xbox recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Its TV guidance recommends 20 Mbps download and a wired connection or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. These are recommendations, not guarantees of smooth streaming.
Choose a supported device and route
Xbox lists Windows PCs, Apple and Android phones and tablets, Xbox consoles, selected LG and Samsung TVs, selected VIDAA OS TVs, Amazon Fire TV devices and selected Meta Quest headsets among supported device families. Not every model in a family is compatible, so confirm the exact model on Xbox’s current compatibility list.

Start a cloud gaming session
- Check the game and access requirements. Find the title in Xbox’s current cloud gaming catalog and confirm it is available in your region and through your plan, or that it is one of the selected free-to-play or owned games eligible for streaming.
- Open the appropriate Xbox route. On browser-supported devices, go to Xbox.com/play using Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome or Safari. On app-supported devices, open the Xbox app. Some platforms have their own device-specific instructions.
- Sign in with your Microsoft account. Use the account that has the required Game Pass plan or access to the eligible free-to-play game.
- Connect a controller if the game needs one. Pair it over Bluetooth or connect it by USB. If the title supports Xbox touch controls, you can use those on supported touch devices instead.
- Select the game and start streaming. Choose the cloud-play option for the title. If cloud play is not offered, verify its eligibility, your region and plan, and the device you are using.
Why a game or device may not work
- The device is from a supported family but not a supported model. Check the current Xbox list for the exact model rather than relying on the brand name alone.
- The game is not in the cloud catalog for your setup. Game Pass libraries and owned games are not automatically all cloud-playable. Catalog availability can vary by time, country, plan and platform.
- Your plan or region does not include the game. Check the title’s current availability and the plan requirements for your country. Selected free-to-play titles are an exception to the usual subscription requirement, but still require a supported region and Microsoft account.
- The app or browser route is unavailable. Use the Xbox app or supported browser path specified for your device; browser access is not supported in every browser.
- The stream is unstable or low quality. Check download speed and connection stability. For TV play, Xbox recommends wired Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi and 20 Mbps download speed; its general FAQ gives 10 Mbps as a minimum and notes some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality. Streaming performance also depends on location and device.
- The game does not respond to touch input. Touch controls are available only for selected games. Connect a compatible controller if the title requires one.
