To last longer in Slaughter Mode, start by tuning the Ripatorium encounter to your goal: make parries more forgiving and resources more plentiful while learning, then raise pressure one setting at a time. The Ripatorium is a customizable arena mode—not a fixed challenge with a publisher-endorsed optimal build or enemy order. Its options support repeatable practice, resource drills, and tougher endurance runs.
How to make a Slaughter Mode run more survivable
Use the Ripatorium’s controls to change the specific pressure that is ending your runs. Bethesda describes what the modifiers do, but does not recommend a universally best Slaughter Mode preset. For a learning run, ease the timing and resource demands; for a benchmark, retain tougher settings and repeat the same encounter setup.
- Parry Window: Raise it while practicing parry timing. Bethesda says the setting adjusts the opportunity to reflect attacks that can be parried; a larger window is more forgiving, not a replacement for recognizing which attacks are parryable. Bethesda’s Custom Gameplay Modifiers guide explains the control.
- Player damage and enemy aggression: Lower player damage or aggression to reduce incoming pressure while you learn an encounter. Restore either setting when you’re ready to test whether the improvement holds under tougher conditions.
- Resource Values: Increase this setting to gain more resources from pickups. That can help you practice combat decisions without resource scarcity dominating the run; lower it later if scarcity is part of the challenge you want to train for.
Change one modifier at a time and keep the rest of the encounter consistent. That makes it easier to tell whether a longer run came from better execution or simply from a more forgiving setting.
Which Ripatorium settings should you use?
There is no single best setup. Pick settings by the skill you want to practice and how much pressure you want. The table summarizes the tradeoffs documented in Bethesda’s Update 2 notes, Update 3 notes, and Revelations Update 4 notes.

Update 2 introduced demon selection, time-limit or Endless options, and respawn controls. Update 3 expanded the encounter structure to rounds and waves. These controls let you build a repeatable drill, but Bethesda does not publish an optimal enemy sequence or combination.
How to practice without running out of health or ammo
Choose pickup behavior to match the skill you are isolating. Update 4 documents no pickups, single-use pickups, and pickups that respawn on a five-minute timer. It also lets you configure Berserk availability: disable it, allow one use, respawn it on a five-minute timer, or make it unlimited. Update 4 adds BFC ammo controls as well.

- For timing practice: Use single-use pickups so a resource is available once, then focus on when you collect or spend it.
- For avoidance and resource discipline: Turn pickups off and raise Resource Values only if the mode’s other resource sources make the drill too punishing. No pickups tests how well you avoid unnecessary exposure; it is not an ordinary resource-rich run.
- For endurance: Try five-minute pickup respawns and set a longer encounter. Decide whether Berserk should be limited, timed, or unlimited based on whether you want to practice without it or include it in the drill.
Update 4 describes continuous spawn mode this way: “set respawn waves of demons within the rounds to continuously respawn instead of fully eliminating existing enemies within a wave.” Because enemies keep returning rather than waiting for a wave to be cleared, use it for sustained combat practice—not as an easier way to extend a survival run.
Build the drill in stages: first make a short encounter you can repeat, then add a round or respawn wave when you can manage it consistently. Update 3 supports up to five rounds and ten respawn waves per round. That is a documented maximum, not a recommended starting point.

How should you use arenas, blockers, and demon selection?
Choose an arena and demon mix you can reproduce between attempts. If you change the enemy types, quantities, and difficulty settings together, it becomes difficult to identify what helped or hurt. Once you have a stable baseline, change one element to practice a specific matchup or a tougher sightline.
Update 3 added line-of-sight blockers across arenas. As a practical inference, a blocker may give you a way to break exposure, but the benefit depends on where it sits and which demons are present. Don’t assume every arena offers the same cover or that a blocker makes an encounter safe.

Do campaign Life Sigils and exploration tips apply to Slaughter Mode?
Bethesda’s exploration guide describes Life Sigils as extra lives that let you continue after death without reloading a checkpoint, and notes that the player can carry only a limited number. The guide does not say that Slaughter Mode rounds provide Sigils or state a numeric carrying limit, so don’t plan an arena run around finding one.
The same guide recommends checking the AutoMap for objectives, caches, and secret areas, and describes using Shield Saw Charge and Throw to interact with objects and gates. Those are campaign exploration tips, not confirmed Slaughter Mode survival mechanics. See Bethesda’s exploration guide for that context.

If you are stuck because you cannot progress through a map, rather than because an arena fight is difficult, Bethesda Support recommends searching the area, trying run-and-jump traversal or climbable walls, and using Restart Map From Checkpoint or Restart Map From Beginning if needed.
What changed in the Ripatorium, and what is the current scope?
Bethesda’s July 7, 2026 Revelations Update 4 notes document Ripatorium 3.0 and added Ripatorium content for Revelations, including new arenas and demons. The notes say this additional content unlocks after completing the Master Arenas. That unlock condition applies to the additional Revelations content; it is not a general requirement stated here for all Ripatorium encounters.
