PlayStation Canada confirmed a launch price of $959.99 CAD for the PS5 Pro on September 10, 2024, according to MobileSyrup. That was the launch-era price, not a verified current Canadian price: Sony’s March 2026 price notice does not state a Canadian amount.
What the $959.99 Canadian price referred to
The $959.99 CAD figure was announced ahead of the PS5 Pro’s November 7, 2024 launch. MobileSyrup attributed the amount to confirmation from PlayStation Canada; GameStop Canada’s listing also showed $959.99 and the same release date. Those sources establish a historical launch price, not what Canadian buyers pay now.
Sony’s March 27, 2026 price update says revised prices took effect April 2 in the United States, United Kingdom, Europe and Japan. For other territories, Sony directs customers to local retailers or PlayStation Direct where available. The notice does not give a Canadian price, so a current Canadian amount cannot be confirmed from it. Do not infer one by converting a price from another market.
What was included at launch
The PS5 Pro is sold without a disc drive. Sony’s September 10, 2024 announcement describes it as a disc-less console, with the separately sold Disc Drive available for people who want to play physical games. MobileSyrup reported the drive at $99.99 CAD at launch; that, too, is a historical figure rather than a current Canadian price.

The console’s stated configuration includes a 2TB SSD and one DualSense controller. Astro’s Playroom is pre-installed. Sony says the Pro is compatible with currently available PS5 accessories, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, the Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. Its interface and network services remain the same as PS5.
What makes the PS5 Pro different
Sony positions the Pro around an upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), its AI-driven upscaling technology. The company also lists support for variable refresh rate (VRR) and 8K gaming. Wi-Fi 7 support depends on whether that standard is supported in a territory; Sony’s Canadian product information also says the console works with Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 5 routers.

Sony’s performance comparisons are manufacturer claims, not independent benchmark results. Against the then-current PS5, Sony says the Pro has 67% more GPU compute units and memory that is 28% faster, enabling rendering up to 45% faster. Sony also says ray-tracing speeds can be double or, in some cases, triple those of the then-current console. These figures describe Sony’s stated capabilities; they do not promise the same result in every game.
Game support affects the value
Sony says enhanced PS5 Pro features are available in selected PS5 games and vary by title. The console also has Game Boost, which Sony says may stabilize or improve performance in more than 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games. That does not mean every PS4 game improves, or that every PS5 game gets Pro-specific enhancements.

Before paying a premium for the Pro, check whether the games you play support its enhanced features and whether their visual or frame-rate improvements matter to you. If you already own a PS5, consider how much you value those title-specific changes rather than assuming the upgrade affects your whole library in the same way.

Compare the Canadian price currently shown by PlayStation Canada or local retailers, rather than relying on the 2024 launch figure. Include accessories you actually need: buyers who play physical discs must account for a separately purchased compatible Disc Drive, and anyone considering storage expansion should verify the requirements and current pricing before buying an M.2 SSD.
