Use YouTube playlists to make a 24/7 music channel easier to browse—not to keep it broadcasting. In YouTube Studio, create clearly named playlists, add relevant uploads, choose visibility, and arrange the videos. A continuous livestream is a separate workflow: YouTube receives a live feed through its Live Control Room and an encoder. Before streaming music, make sure you have rights for the tracks and territories involved.
What playlists can—and can’t—do for a 24/7 channel
A playlist is a named, ordered collection of videos. It can help listeners find a particular sound or program, and it can group past broadcasts and highlights. YouTube recommends organizing livestream archives and highlights into playlists after an event (YouTube’s live-stream promotion guidance).
A playlist does not itself provide a continuous live transmission. YouTube’s playlist tools manage videos, while its live-stream instructions describe a separate process using the Live Control Room and an encoder. That distinction follows from YouTube’s separate workflows; it is not a claim that playlists have no other uses.
Choose a simple playlist structure
Organize playlists around the choices a listener is likely to make. These are practical suggestions, not playlist types required by YouTube:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Genre: for example, ambient, jazz, or electronic music.
- Mood or activity: such as quiet listening, focus, or upbeat music.
- Program: a recurring show or a distinct part of your channel’s schedule.
- Archives and highlights: past livestreams or selected clips, kept separate from the main listening catalog where that makes browsing clearer.
Give each playlist a distinct purpose. If two lists contain mostly the same videos and promise the same listening experience, combine them or make their difference explicit in their titles and descriptions. Feature public playlists where they help viewers browse; keep planning lists private if they are only for your own use.
Create and populate a playlist in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, open Content, then Playlists, and select Create playlist.
- Enter a descriptive title and, if useful, a description. YouTube’s Studio help page sets limits of 150 characters for playlist titles and 5,000 characters for descriptions. Explain what belongs in the list so its purpose is clear to listeners.
- Choose the playlist’s visibility and ordering, then add videos. You can add items from search, a URL, or your channel library.
- Select Create. To add one of your existing uploads later, open that video’s details and use the playlist option there. You can also manage playlists from Studio. See Manage playlists in YouTube Studio.
Set visibility, order, and playlist type
Choose visibility for the intended audience
Public playlists are suitable for helping viewers discover and browse your catalog. A private playlist is visible only to its owner, according to YouTube’s playlist guidance. Use private lists for internal planning rather than as a way to share a listening route with viewers. Review the visibility setting before sharing a playlist link.

Arrange videos so the opening items explain the list
Reorder items by dragging them into place. Put a representative video near the beginning so a visitor can quickly understand the playlist’s purpose, and revisit the order as you add or remove uploads. YouTube’s help pages cover creating and managing playlists and editing playlists.
Use a series playlist only for a true sequence
A series playlist is for videos intended to be watched together in a set, not simply a collection of related songs. YouTube describes it as “an official set of videos that should be viewed together.” To use one, your account must be verified; it can contain only videos you own and have rights to use; and a video can be in only one series playlist. Check YouTube’s series playlist requirements before converting a playlist.

Keep the catalog useful as it grows
- Add a video to the playlist that best matches its listening purpose instead of copying every upload into every list.
- Update titles or descriptions if a playlist’s scope changes, and remove items that no longer fit.
- Use playlists to make archives and selected highlights easier to find after a broadcast.
- Feature or link public playlists from channel surfaces when they are useful entry points for viewers.
These steps improve how viewers navigate uploaded videos; they do not keep the live feed running.
What a continuous music livestream requires
To broadcast continuously, configure a separate live stream in YouTube’s Live Control Room and send it an encoder feed. YouTube describes encoders as software applications or standalone hardware. Its setup instructions say that enabling a first livestream may take up to 24 hours. The encoder connects using the stream URL and stream key; YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. These platform instructions can change, so check the current encoder setup steps in Live Control Room before relying on them.

Its general live-streaming help also says creators must be at least 16. These are eligibility checks, not a guarantee that a particular channel will be approved. See Get started with live streaming.

A track being available to listen to, or included in a personal music subscription, does not establish that you may rebroadcast it in a YouTube livestream. Rights can depend on the specific recording, composition, territories, and uses involved. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the content provider, who represents and warrants that they have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of the live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Read the livestream terms and conditions, and seek guidance from the relevant rights holders or a qualified legal professional for your catalog and territories.
