What is confirmed about TF3 map sizes?
The official Transport Fever 3 Base Config modding wiki documents configurable game settings, but the reviewed page does not identify a map-size unlock setting. Urban Games has said that some gameplay values are moddable; its September 2026 discussion concerns population density and vehicle capacity, not map size, and provides no procedure for changing it. A third-party guide reported that TF3’s largest map matched TF2’s largest and that a larger experimental option was being tested, but was not promised. That report is secondary evidence and does not establish that the option is available in the current game. See the guide’s map-size overview.
Does the experimentalMapFeatures setting unlock a bigger map?
A Reddit post suggests enabling experimentalMapFeatures in the PC settings.lua file. It does not demonstrate that the setting reveals a larger map-size preset, so there is no confirmed sequence of file edits to recommend. View the community post.

If you choose to investigate the setting, first check current TF3-specific documentation and back up the configuration file before editing. Do not assume the setting exists in every build or that enabling it will change map options; restore your backup if an edit causes problems.
Why TF2 instructions may not work in TF3
The official Transport Fever 2 manual describes enabling other map sizes through settings.lua, but those instructions apply to TF2. They do not confirm that TF3 uses the same file paths, variables, or behavior. Consult the TF2 manual’s map-size instructions only for that game; do not copy them into TF3 as an unlock method.

How to check for a supported TF3 option
- Check the current TF3 Base Config documentation for an explicitly documented map-size setting.
- Review official Urban Games news for an announcement that describes a map-size option or a supported method to enable one.
- Before editing any configuration file, confirm that instructions specifically name your TF3 build and platform. Back up the original file and avoid substituting TF2 settings.
