Unlock gadgets by progressing through Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, including by increasing your World Match rank. To equip them, open the Garage’s Gadget Customization screen and attach them to your Gadget Plate. Their effects can change how you race, so choose a setup for your driving style, track, machine, and mode—not a supposed universal best build.
How to equip gadgets
- Open the Garage.
- Choose Gadget Customization. Select gadgets and attach them to your Gadget Plate. SEGA says fitting gadgets to your vehicle grants abilities that change your playstyle options. Read SEGA’s features overview.
- Review the selected gadgets’ effects and requirements. The screen is where you customize your plate and, where available, purchase certain kits with Donpa Tickets.
Gadget effects differ: some can affect item stock, drift charging, rings, or other race situations. Not every gadget works as a manually triggered ability. SEGA’s online manual result describes a Gadget button for swapping stocked items, but it reflects Closed Network Test specifications, not necessarily the current game. Check the current in-game button assignments; SEGA said Ver. 1.3.1 added the ability to add or change a button that triggers gadget abilities. SEGA’s online manual · Ver. 1.3.1 update notes.
How to unlock more gadgets
Keep playing: SEGA says gadgets unlock through game progression, and its features page specifically identifies World Match rank increases as a way to earn new gadgets. SEGA’s product announcement put the general idea simply: “As you play the game, you will unlock more gadgets to trick out your ride, letting you create the perfect machine for your racing style.” SEGA product announcement · SEGA features overview.
Plate requirements vary by gadget
Check the requirement shown for a gadget rather than assuming every item unlocks at the same rank. SEGA’s update notices give examples of specific plate gates, not a complete current unlock chart:

Think about the job you want a gadget to do, then account for your driving strengths, the track, your machine, and the mode. SEGA describes the system as a way to adapt your playstyle to each track. Its features page says there are over 70 gadgets; that is SEGA’s undated page count, and the live game may have added more.

- Ring strategy: Ring-focused gadgets may suit a plan built around rings, but check mode restrictions for particular gadgets.
- Stat tuning: Use gadgets that adjust machine attributes when you want to emphasize a driving strength or compensate for a weakness.
- Defensive or support effects: Consider these if protecting a run or supporting a particular race plan matters more than maximizing another effect.
Updates can add or adjust effects and restrict where some gadgets are usable, so treat old tier lists as version-specific rather than permanent advice.

Why a gadget may be unavailable
- Your Gadget Plate may not meet its requirement. Check the gadget’s displayed gate; examples include Silver Plate for six gadgets in Ver. 1.2.0 and Gold Plate for eight in Ver. 1.4.1.
- The mode may restrict it. In Ver. 1.3.1, Warp Ring and Warp Ring Specialist were unavailable in World Match, Festivals, and Legend Competition, while still usable against CPU opponents and in Friend Matches. Consult current patch notes for later rule changes.
- A Festival kit may require a purchase and a higher plate rank. SEGA listed some former Festival rewards for Donpa Ticket purchase through Gadget Customization with a Master Plate requirement.
- The control may differ from an older manual. The online manual reflects Closed Network Test specifications; verify button assignments in the current game.
