What is Control Resonant about?
Control Resonant is the released sequel to Control and the other half of the Faden siblings’ story. Jesse led the first game; this time, Dylan is the sole playable character. He has awoken after years in a coma and is sent into a supernatural crisis by the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). He searches for redemption and for Jesse, who is missing.
Remedy describes a new form of resonance warping Manhattan, alongside familiar paranatural forces including the Hiss and the Mold. The official premise establishes the crisis and the siblings’ connection, but not the full explanation of what happened to Jesse or how the new resonance works. Dylan’s FBC handler is Zoe De Vera, a Field Agent who provides guidance and context. Remedy says their relationship challenges him to confront his identity and humanity; the precise course of that relationship is part of the story.

Where does Control Resonant take place?
The game moves the action from the Oldest House into a warped Manhattan on the brink of paranatural annihilation. Its cityscape is not simply a realistic urban backdrop: Remedy’s gameplay coverage describes familiar structures growing more distorted, with architecture folding and gravity becoming unpredictable. The West Incursion Zone is one early example.
That unstable city is also part of how the game makes exploration and combat work. Roads and building surfaces can become pathways in unexpected orientations as gravity shifts, so the environment is a system Dylan must navigate, not just scenery. Is Control Resonant open world?
No. Remedy’s Lead Gameplay Designer Sergey Mohov says the game is built around distinct, expansive zones, with a central narrative alongside optional activities, hidden encounters, and discoveries. That means there is room to explore within its areas, but the structure is not one continuous open world.
The distinction matters if you are deciding what kind of exploration to expect: the available description promises substantial zones and optional content, not an unrestricted map. Remedy’s [gameplay announcement](https://www.remedygames.com/article/remedy-entertainment-unveils-new-gameplay-details-for-control-resonant) describes that structure directly.

How do traversal and combat work?
Gravity-bending movement
Dylan uses supernatural abilities including Reach and Shift to cross the distorted city. Gravity Anomalies change gravity and orientation; Shift lets him redirect movement and momentum. With streets and building surfaces turning into possible routes, traversal depends on reading and responding to changes in the environment.
The Aberrant and supernatural abilities
Dylan’s main weapon is the Aberrant, an otherworldly melee weapon that changes shape. Remedy has shown Hammer, Blades, Scythe, and Fists forms. Weapon forms and abilities can be unlocked, with combos, loadout choices, and further move customization adding ways to shape combat.

Resonant boss enemies are tied to progression: Remedy says defeating them is the primary way Dylan expands his supernatural arsenal, with each defeated Resonant rewarding a new combat ability. This makes the bosses more than encounters to overcome; they are a major route to new options in the combat system.
PS5 upgrades and features
On PS5, Remedy describes a player-accessible “Gap” in Dylan’s mind where you can upgrade, test builds, and craft Artifacts. The PS5 feature article lists Performance and Quality modes and says the game was built with 60fps performance in mind; those are PS5-specific details, not a claim about every platform. Do you need to play Control first?
No. Remedy’s Co-Creative Director Mikael Kasurinen says, “You don’t need to have played the first Control to experience Resonant.” The studio describes it as a fresh entry point. Returning players may recognize connections to Jesse’s path and the siblings’ shared mysteries, but the first game is not presented as a prerequisite. Remedy’s [reveal post](https://blog.playstation.com/2025/12/11/control-resonant-brings-a-new-paranatural-crisis-to-ps5-out-2026/) gives that guidance.
How long is Control Resonant?
Remedy estimates the main story at 25 to 35 hours, according to Communications Director Thomas Puha in 2026. This is the developer’s estimate, not an independently measured average; Remedy says completionists can spend longer. Optional discoveries and activities may add time, but no separate completionist-hour figure is stated. Release and platforms
Control Resonant launched worldwide on 24 September 2026. Remedy’s current game page lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and GeForce NOW. The release announcement named PC via Steam and Epic Games Store; it also said Mac via Steam and the App Store would follow later in 2026, but the current page does not confirm Mac availability.
