Select Live in the player to jump back to the current broadcast. The chat keeps moving in real time while you watch an earlier moment, so it may not match the video.
How to rewind a Twitch live stream
- Open the live stream in Twitch’s player.
- Pause the video or drag the seek bar left to the point you want to watch.
- To catch up with the broadcast, select Live in the player.
Rewind is a Twitch live-player feature, not a control available on every channel. Twitch says chat continues in real time while the video is paused or rewound; expect chat messages to refer to events that have not happened yet in the part of the stream you are watching.
Why you may not be able to rewind
The channel must have Stream Rewind enabled
Twitch says only Affiliates and Partners can enable Stream Rewind. A streamer’s status alone does not guarantee it is available: the streamer must also have the required VOD settings enabled.
Your viewer account must qualify
On an enabled Affiliate or Partner channel, Twitch documents access for Channel subscribers when the channel offers the ad-free viewing subscriber benefit, and for Twitch Turbo subscribers. A regular viewer who does not meet one of those conditions may not be able to rewind, even when the channel has the feature enabled. DJ streams are excluded
Stream Rewind is unavailable for the DJ category and DJ Program streams because Twitch does not allow VODs to be published for them.
How streamers enable Stream Rewind
For Affiliates and Partners, Twitch says Stream Rewind is enabled automatically when both Store past broadcasts and Always publish VODs are enabled in VOD Settings. Twitch also describes a Stream Rewind toggle under Always publish VODs.

- Open Creator Dashboard → Settings → Stream → VOD Settings.
- Turn on Store past broadcasts.
- Turn on Always publish VODs, and check the Stream Rewind setting under it.
Changes take effect starting with the next stream, not the broadcast already in progress. Streamers should configure these settings before going live if they want viewers to be able to rewind that broadcast.
If live rewind is unavailable, look for a saved VOD
Once a broadcast ends, a saved Past Broadcast (VOD) may let you watch it from the beginning or seek to a moment, but only if the streamer stored and published it and it is still available. Twitch’s On-Demand Content help page says Past Broadcasts remain available for the following periods; Twitch does not state a publication year for these figures:

These are the durations on Twitch’s current help page, not a guarantee that a particular stream is saved or visible. Past Broadcast storage must be enabled for broadcasts to be saved.
Troubleshooting Twitch rewind
- No seek bar or rewind option: Confirm that the channel is an Affiliate or Partner with Stream Rewind enabled, and that your account meets Twitch’s viewer eligibility. For a DJ category or DJ Program stream, rewind is not available.
- A streamer’s settings changed during the broadcast: The change applies from the next stream, so it will not enable rewind for the current one.
- An extension blocks or covers the seek bar: Open the player’s Settings gear and choose Hide Seek Bar. Refresh the page or choose Show Seek Bar to restore it.
- The live broadcast has ended: Check for a Past Broadcast on the channel. It can only help if the streamer stored and published the VOD and it has not expired.
