No. Game of Thrones: Legends is free to download, and Zynga describes its in-game purchases as optional. You can earn resources through play; paid passes and store items add rewards that can help grow a roster faster, but the available official information does not establish a spending requirement to advance.

What can you earn without paying?

The Google Play listing describes a game built around collecting, upgrading, and deploying Champions, dragons, and weapons across campaign, events, solo play, and PvP. It identifies the download as free and purchases as optional.

Zynga’s September 14–October 12, 2026 Kingsroad season offers a free reward track earned by completing daily and weekly goals. Its listed rewards include Common Champion Shards and Summoning Tokens. Each of five daily goals awards 300 points, and each weekly goal awards 800 points. Once a player passes Tier 50, a bonus chest is available for every additional 700 points.

Campaign play also gives players some control over resource gathering. In its June 2026 roadmap, Zynga says each campaign level now focuses on one reward type, allowing players to direct energy toward the currency they want to accumulate. The announcement does not specify how long free players take to reach particular milestones.

What does paying add?

The paid Goldroad pass adds rewards at the same tiers reached on the free Kingsroad. Zynga lists 15 Legendary Champion Shards for the Night King on the September 2026 Goldroad. The Elite Goldroad upgrade adds further items, including tokens, Legendary Gear, Valyrian Essence, and Skill Books.

The enhanced in-game store also sells shards, skill books, gear, and iconic materials that can expand and strengthen a roster. These purchases add ways to obtain progression resources; the publisher’s description does not say that those resources are available only through payment.

Summoning resources matter to roster-building, but they do not by themselves show that spending is compulsory. In an announcement about summoning, Zynga acknowledged player feedback that Summon Token prices felt high and described changes to shard quantities and availability. It also noted that larger banners can make a specific Champion harder to target.

Does paying make progression faster?

The clearest distinction is access versus pace: the game and its free Kingsroad rewards are available without a paid pass, while Goldroad, Elite Goldroad, and store purchases supply additional resources that can accelerate or broaden roster development.

A May 2025 App Store reviewer reported progressing and obtaining new Champions without spending, while saying payment made account growth faster. That is one player’s experience, not a measure of how free players progress generally.

What is not established about free progression?

The official announcements describe reward mechanics, not the time a non-paying player needs for late-game milestones. They do not establish whether every competitive target is reachable on a preferred schedule or compare free and paying players at the top of PvP. The evidence supports neither a promise that free progression is effortless nor a claim that spending is required or that the game is pay-to-win.
