That account comes from Epic’s court filing—not the original Google advisory—and does not establish whether anyone exploited the flaw.
What the Fortnite Android installer vulnerability was
In a filing submitted on November 15, 2021, Epic Games said Google had identified a vulnerability in the original Fortnite Android installer and that Epic promptly remedied it. Epic said the fix took effect the next time a user launched Fortnite. The filing does not provide a verified fixed installer version or enough detail to identify an exact affected-version range. Epic’s filing, page 8, is the strongest located source for the incident details.
The filing reproduces internal Google comments describing the issue as “not a critical security (or even high) vulnerability” and saying exploitation required another potentially harmful app to be installed already and place a harmful payload where the Fortnite installer would use it. These are quotations reported in Epic’s pleading, not a public Google security advisory or an independent court finding. The available account supports describing a prerequisite, but not assigning a definitive severity rating.
Was the flaw exploited, and is it still a risk?
The available sources do not establish whether the vulnerability was exploited in the wild. They also do not establish that it remains present in current Fortnite distribution. Epic’s filing says the issue was remedied; it does not supply an independently verifiable patch record or a current technical assessment. The incident should therefore be understood as a historical flaw in the original installer, not as evidence of a current Fortnite vulnerability.

How to install Fortnite on Android now
Use Epic’s current Fortnite Android page for the official download route. Epic directs Android users to download the Epic Games Store and install Fortnite through it, and says Fortnite is also available through Google Play in the United States. Availability can vary by region, so check Epic’s page for the route offered where you are.
Epic also names Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce NOW and Amazon Luna as cloud-play options in supported regions. These let players access Fortnite without a native Fortnite download, subject to each service’s availability and requirements. They are alternative ways to play, not fixes for the historical installer flaw.

Why Android may ask to install apps from a source
Installing the Epic Games Store outside Google Play may require Android’s permission to install apps from that source. This is a normal Android security control, not by itself a sign that a device is compromised or that the historical installer flaw is present. Epic says the steps vary by Android version and device; Epic’s permission guidance explains the installation flow.
On Android 8.0 and later, the general model described by Google’s Android guidance is permission by install source: users can review or revoke which sources are allowed to install apps. The exact setting name and path depend on the device and software version. Grant permission only to the source you intend to use, and revoke it later if you no longer need it.

If Epic login shows “Something Went Wrong” or “Invalid Client”
Epic says these Android login errors can occur when the Epic Games Store app is unofficial or outdated. Its troubleshooting direction is to download the app from Epic’s official Android page. These errors are current troubleshooting issues; they are not evidence that the historical installer vulnerability has affected a device. See Epic’s Android support guidance.

Epic’s current download page lists Android SDK 24 as the minimum for the Epic Games Store mobile app, recommends SDK 34 or later for optimal performance, and says the app uses about 25 MB of storage. Those figures describe the store app; Epic cautions that individual games may require higher specifications. Check the page for current requirements before installing.

Epic distinguishes the Epic Games app from the Epic Games Store app on its mobile apps page. It also recommends enabling two-factor authentication to protect an Epic account. That is useful account protection, but it does not remediate the historical installer flaw.
