That makes Xbox the steepest decliner among the platforms in that monthly comparison—not necessarily the biggest loser for all of 2025. The figures do not prove that Xbox’s 2025 price increases caused the drop.
What the November 2025 comparison says
TechRadar reported the November figures on December 18, 2025, citing Circana senior director and industry analyst Mat Piscatella speaking to IGN. The comparison is U.S. sales versus November 2024, not a worldwide tally or a full-year unit-sales ranking.
| Platform comparison | Reported year-over-year change | What is being compared |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox | Down 70% | November 2025 versus November 2024; as reported by TechRadar, citing Piscatella’s remarks to IGN. |
| PS5 | Down 40% | November 2025 versus November 2024; as reported by TechRadar. |
| Nintendo Switch family | Down 10% | November 2025 combined Switch 2 and original Switch versus November 2024 Switch-only sales, as reported by TechRadar. The platform grouping differs between the two periods. |
On those reported percentages, Xbox had the largest decline. The Nintendo figure is not a like-for-like comparison of the same model group: Switch 2 had launched by November 2025, so its sales are combined with the original Switch, while the prior-year comparator covers Switch alone. The percentages also describe changes in sales, not the number of consoles sold or revenue.
Did Xbox’s 2025 price hikes cause the decline?
They may have contributed, but the reported comparison cannot establish how much they mattered. TechRadar says Xbox hardware prices rose in the U.S. in May and again in September 2025 and presents those increases as a likely factor. It also mentions Xbox’s multiplatform strategy and cost-of-living pressures. The report supplies no causal model, control group, or estimate of sales lost specifically because of the price changes.

In the article’s December 2025 context, TechRadar listed the Xbox Series X at $649.99 and the Series X Galaxy Black Special Edition at $799.99. Those are historical prices reported in that article, not verified current prices. The reporting does not provide enough information here to treat either as a complete account of every Xbox model or price change.
Why the November result is not a full-year Xbox ranking
A single month’s year-over-year change cannot tell you which console sold the fewest units across the entire year. A secondary summary of Circana’s 2025 U.S. full-year results says Switch 2 was the best-selling system, with 4.4 million units, and that PS5 ranked second. That summary does not provide a comparable annual Xbox unit total, so it cannot establish Xbox’s full-year position by unit sales. GameDev Reports’ summary is secondary reporting of Circana data.

Dollar spending is a separate measure from console units sold. Higher prices can raise spending even when fewer units are purchased, so market-wide spending totals should not be read as a direct measure of Xbox hardware volume.
How the wider U.S. market performed
The Entertainment Software Association’s March 2026 restatement gives final U.S. video game spending in 2025 as $60.8 billion overall, including $5.4 billion for hardware and $2.9 billion for accessories. These are market-wide dollar totals, not Xbox sales figures. The ESA notes that Circana and Sensor Tower restated the earlier figures in March; the final values are the appropriate ones to use rather than the preliminary breakdown. ESA’s release quotes Circana executive director Mat Piscatella saying, “Total spending on video game products in 2025 reached the second highest total in U.S. history, trailing only 2021’s $61.7 billion.”

That broad market result does not conflict with falling console sales in a particular month: it measures spending across video game products over a full year, rather than monthly hardware units for one brand.

- Supported by the reported comparison: Xbox had the largest reported year-over-year decline among the listed platforms in U.S. November 2025 sales.
- Not established by that comparison: that Xbox sold the fewest consoles during all of 2025, or that the price increases alone caused its November decline.
- Important context: the Nintendo comparison combines two systems in 2025 but compares against the original Switch alone in 2024; annual unit rankings and market-wide spending answer different questions.
The available full-year summary identifies Switch 2 as the leading U.S. system in 2025 but does not give a comparable annual Xbox unit total. Accordingly, “biggest loser” is defensible only as shorthand for the steepest decline in the reported November comparison, not as a proven full-year verdict.
