Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo start a YouTube playlist at a set time on a Raspberry Pi, schedule a browser kiosk or a digital-signage player to open it during the required time window. Set the Pi’s clock to India local time, then test the exact playlist on the display: a schedule launches content, but it cannot guarantee YouTube will keep playing without a prompt, interruption, or playlist ending.
Choose how the Pi will play the playlist
| Option | Best for | Check before relying on it |
|---|---|---|
| DIY Chromium kiosk | A basic setup where you are comfortable configuring Raspberry Pi OS and need a browser to open a playlist page. | Autostart paths differ by OS release and desktop session; confirm the Chromium executable name, autoplay behavior, restart handling, and what happens when the playlist ends. A browser cache is not necessarily an offline copy of the playlist. |
| Digital-signage player | A setup needing a scheduling interface, screen controls, or player management. | Confirm schedule options, Pi and player-version support, YouTube compatibility, network requirements, and management or recovery features. PiSignage documentation describes date/time/day scheduling and support for certain YouTube streams through MPV. |
PiSignage documents schedule templates with start and end dates, playback time windows, selected days or dates, and multiweek cycles. Its group settings separately describe daily screen on/off and reboot scheduling. A reboot schedule is not a playlist schedule; use the playlist’s scheduling controls for playback.
Set up a scheduled browser kiosk
The exact desktop autostart location depends on the Raspberry Pi OS release and session. A third-party Raspberry Pi kiosk guide gives examples for Bookworm/labwc, earlier Bookworm/Wayfire, and Bullseye or X sessions, plus a systemd restart example. Verify its instructions against the OS installed on your Pi rather than copying a path or command blindly.
- Set the clock and time zone. Configure the Pi for the time zone used at the installation site in India. Trigger a test schedule soon after setup and observe the start time; do not assume that the scheduler’s displayed time or system clock is correct without checking.
- Prepare the playlist address. Use the playlist page or an appropriate embed. In an embedded video’s code, YouTube says to add
&autoplay=1after the video ID in the embed URL. This requests autoplay for that embedded video; it does not ensure that an entire playlist will run uninterrupted. - Configure startup and scheduling. Set the kiosk browser to open the playlist at startup, then use the OS scheduler or signage player’s schedule to launch it at the required time. With PiSignage, create a schedule template and set its dates, time window, days or dates, and any multiweek cycle needed.
- Keep the browser recoverable. For a DIY kiosk, configure a process supervisor or systemd service to restart Chromium if it exits. A restart can recover from a browser crash; it does not provide the remote restart, health reporting, or offline cache that a separate management system might provide.
- Run a real-world test. Check the display, playlist start, at least one transition between videos, and playback long enough to detect pauses. Restart the Pi and interrupt then restore the network to confirm the scheduled player returns to the expected content.
Check YouTube restrictions and long-play behavior
YouTube permits embedded videos and playlists, but individual videos may not work in a kiosk embed. The video owner can disable embedding; most age-restricted videos cannot be watched on third-party websites; and embedded playback requires an HTTP Referer. Check the YouTube embed requirements for the current details.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Autoplay can also pause for confirmation. YouTube says its “Continue watching?” prompt can appear after 60 minutes of uninterrupted watching on web or 180 minutes on TV. These are platform behavior thresholds, not guaranteed run times for every Pi browser or video. Test the actual player and schedule, especially if the playlist is expected to run for hours.
At the end of a playlist, behavior depends on the player and its settings. Confirm whether it restarts, stops, or moves to another item; do not assume scheduling the playlist also defines what happens after its final video.

Account for India’s connectivity and offline limits
Treat YouTube playback on a Pi as online playback. Test the internet connection at the display location and check that the data plan suits the video quality you intend to play. There is no established general reliability or data-consumption figure for this setup; both depend on the videos, quality, connection, and player.
YouTube’s offline viewing help for Android in select countries and regions describes downloads through the YouTube mobile app, including India-specific availability and eligibility. It is not a supported way to cache a playlist on a Raspberry Pi signage player. The page says some downloads may be available for up to 48 hours before reconnecting is required, with different periods for some locations or content.

If offline continuity is essential, use locally stored content only when you have the rights to store and display it, and confirm the chosen player can play those files.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| Playlist starts at the wrong time | Incorrect clock, time zone, or schedule window. | Verify the Pi’s current local time and time zone, check the schedule’s days and dates, then run a near-term observed test. |
| Browser opens but video does not play | Autoplay is blocked, the video is unavailable in that context, embedding is disabled, or an embed lacks the required HTTP Referer. | Test the playlist directly in the kiosk browser. If embedding, review YouTube’s embed requirements and try a permitted video. |
| Playback stops during a long session | YouTube may show a continue-watching prompt, the network may have dropped, or the playlist may have ended. | Observe a long test run, check network recovery, and determine the player’s end-of-playlist behavior. Scheduling alone does not remove these conditions. |
| Browser closes and does not return | No process supervisor is configured, or its service configuration does not match the installed OS. | Check the kiosk guide’s systemd example against your Raspberry Pi OS release and verify that the service restarts the correct browser command. |
| Playlist works on another device but not in the signage player | Player or YouTube-stream compatibility differs; some content may be restricted or unsupported in the selected playback mode. | Test the exact playlist and player version. PiSignage documentation describes Chromium as its default player in version 4+ and MPV for certain YouTube streams; verify what is installed and supported. |
Or let it run in the cloud
For a different job—keeping uploaded video live on a YouTube channel around the clock—StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud rather than scheduling playback on a Raspberry Pi. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. It is for uploaded video streamed to YouTube, not a camera feed or a scheduled local display playlist. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
