Start with the specific racing game you want: modern Genesis collections do not all include the same titles. For Road Rash II, SEGA’s Genesis Mini manual index confirms a plug-and-play option. On Nintendo Switch or Switch 2, the SEGA Genesis app is available through Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, but check the current catalog for your region before assuming it includes a particular racer.
Choose a route by checking the game first
A Genesis collection is not a guarantee that a particular racing game is available. Compare the exact title and your region’s current catalog before buying hardware or subscribing. These routes have different libraries and trade-offs:

Playing Road Rash II on a modern TV
The Genesis Mini is the clearest documented match in the available official information: SEGA’s manual index lists Road Rash II. Check the exact Mini model and regional game list before purchase, since product variants and availability can differ. The documentation confirms the game listing, but does not establish current stock.
Using the Genesis app on Switch or Switch 2
Membership requirement
Nintendo’s SEGA Genesis app requires Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Nintendo lists the app as supported on Switch 2 and describes rewind and save features. These features do not establish that a particular racing game is included, so verify the current regional catalog before subscribing specifically to play one title.

Controller choice
The Genesis Control Pad is optional. Nintendo says it is designed for the Genesis library and that compatibility with other Switch software is not guaranteed. Its U.S./Canada support FAQ describes a wireless, USB-C-rechargeable controller and lists $49.99 USD and $69.99 CAD; those are FAQ prices, not guarantees of current price or stock. Nintendo says a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is sufficient to buy the controller where eligible; the Expansion Pack is required for the Genesis app itself. How to make the decision
- Name the exact racer. Do not use “Genesis games” or “racing games” as a substitute for confirming the individual title.
- Check the matching library. Look at the current regional catalog or the exact physical system’s game list.
- Account for what you own. A Switch owner may prefer its subscription library if the title is there; an existing SEGA Classics owner should check their library before seeking another copy.
- Compare the cost model and controller. The Switch app needs Expansion Pack membership, while a Mini is dedicated hardware. The Genesis Control Pad is an optional extra and may not work with other Switch games.
- Confirm availability before paying. Catalogs, product stock, and prices can change; verify them for your region and platform.

- Road Rash II is listed in SEGA’s official Genesis Mini manual index.
- The Switch Genesis app requires Expansion Pack membership and is listed as supported on Switch 2.
- The available U.S. app catalog does not show a clear racing title; this does not establish what may be available in every region or at a later date.
