The card brought 6GB of GDDR6 memory, ray tracing support and Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS); whether $349 seemed high depended on what it was being compared with.
When did the RTX 2060 launch, and how much did it cost?
NVIDIA announced the GeForce RTX 2060 on January 6, 2019, during CES, and said global availability would begin January 15. Its announced launch price was $349. That is a historical launch figure, not evidence of the card’s present-day price or availability. NVIDIA’s launch announcement
NVIDIA said buyers would be able to choose its Founders Edition, stock-clocked or factory-overclocked partner cards, and complete systems from OEMs and system builders. The announcement does not establish what those products ultimately sold for at retail.
What did NVIDIA offer for $349?
The launch release listed 6GB of GDDR6 memory and 240 Tensor Cores. NVIDIA promoted the RTX 2060’s real-time ray tracing capabilities and DLSS, its deep-learning-based image reconstruction technology. These were launch-era feature and specification claims; the listed core count and memory capacity alone do not establish performance in any particular game.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
At launch, NVIDIA said the RTX 2060 averaged 60% faster than the original GTX 1060 across 23 benchmarks and games at 2560×1440. That is NVIDIA’s reported result under its stated test scope, not an independently reproduced comparison here. The figure should not be generalized to every title, resolution, or system configuration. NVIDIA’s launch announcement
Was $349 a high price for the RTX 2060?
“High” is a matter of comparison, not an objective conclusion established by the launch price alone. On January 6, 2019, TechCrunch editor Frederic Lardinois described $349 as “quite a bargain compared to the existing 20xx cards.” That was a contemporary judgment about the then-existing RTX 20-series cards, not a broad price survey or a comparison with every graphics card on the market. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang called the card’s price “unbeatable” and said its ray tracing blurred the distinction between movies and games. Those were promotional statements from the product launch, rather than independent assessments of value or image quality. For a buyer weighing the price, the relevant questions would have included the games played, the desired resolution, and how much value they placed on ray tracing and DLSS.
How did the RTX 2060 SUPER change the lineup?
In July 2019, NVIDIA announced the RTX 2060 SUPER with a starting price of $399, while describing the original RTX 2060 as starting at $349. This later announcement places the original card in NVIDIA’s lineup at that time; it does not show what either model costs now. NVIDIA’s RTX SUPER announcement

The available launch figures do not provide a common independent test suite comparing the GTX 1060, RTX 2060 and RTX 2060 SUPER. NVIDIA’s 60% claim applies only to its stated 23-benchmark-and-game comparison at 2560×1440, so it cannot by itself settle which generation offered the best value across different workloads.

The $349 figure answers what NVIDIA announced in 2019, not what an RTX 2060 costs or whether it is available in October 2026. The launch announcement and later SUPER announcement do not establish current stock, condition, or retailer pricing. A present-day purchase decision would need current listings and a comparison against the alternatives actually available to you.
