For streamed play, the documented route is Steam Frame → SteamVR OSC → Climbey. Valve’s SteamVR Beta 2.18.2 exposes Steam Frame eye-openness information over OSC while streaming, and Climbey added support for receiving eye openness via OSC. Valve’s note requires SteamOS 0.4.3 or higher. The release notes confirm the connection at a high level, but do not provide the OSC addresses or a click-by-click setup.
What you need for the streamed OSC route
- Steam Frame running SteamOS 0.4.3 or higher. Valve’s October 1, 2026 SteamVR Beta 2.18.2 announcement specifies this requirement; at the time, SteamOS 0.4.3 was on the OS Beta branch. Read Valve’s SteamVR Beta 2.18.2 announcement.
- SteamVR Beta 2.18.2. The announcement says this version exposes eye-openness information via OSC when streaming from Steam Frame.
- A Climbey version with its October 2, 2026 OSC update. Climbey’s update says it adds support for eye openness via OSC. Read Climbey’s update notes.
- Climbey streamed from the PC. The newly documented SteamVR OSC feature is specifically described for streaming from Steam Frame.
How the data gets to Climbey
In this workflow, Steam Frame supplies eye-openness information, SteamVR exposes it over OSC during streaming, and Climbey receives OSC eye-openness data. Valve’s public Steamworks documentation describes its eye-tracking support through the OpenXR extension XR_EXT_eye_gaze_interaction; that documentation is about eye gaze and does not specify Climbey’s OSC configuration. See Valve’s Steam Frame eye-tracking documentation.
The OSC handoff is the key distinction: Valve’s October 1 note is the source for openness-over-OSC, while Climbey’s October 2 update is the source for support on the receiving side. Neither note lists an OSC address, a Climbey menu path, or a specific sharing toggle. Do not assume an older Steam Link setting name or an address from another app applies.
Set it up without guessing at undocumented controls
- Update SteamOS and SteamVR. Confirm SteamOS is version 0.4.3 or higher and SteamVR is on Beta 2.18.2 or later that includes the stated OSC exposure. The cited feature announcement is for the beta release; it does not establish when or whether the feature entered a stable channel.
- Update Climbey. Use a version that includes the October 2, 2026 eye-openness-via-OSC change.
- Stream Steam Frame to the PC and run Climbey there. This matches the execution mode specified in Valve’s announcement. The cited notes do not provide a verified UI path for starting or configuring the stream.
- Check the current SteamVR and Climbey documentation or UI for OSC controls. The release notes establish that the two ends support the handoff, but do not name an enable switch or address mapping. If the applications expose OSC settings, use their current documented values rather than guessing.
- Verify receipt in Climbey. The notes do not describe an in-game indicator or test procedure. If openness does not appear to reach the game, confirm the three versions and streamed execution mode first, then consult the current application documentation for the relevant OSC controls.
Streamed play and native Steam Frame play are different cases
| Where Climbey runs | What the cited notes establish | What remains unconfirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Streamed to a PC | SteamVR Beta 2.18.2 exposes Steam Frame eye openness via OSC while streaming; Climbey’s October 2, 2026 update adds eye-openness OSC support. | The exact OSC paths, current setting labels, and detailed configuration steps are not stated in those notes. |
| Natively on Steam Frame | Valve documents eye tracking through OpenXR, and SteamVR’s release note documents openness via OSC when streaming. | The cited sources do not confirm that this same OSC handoff works when Climbey runs natively on the headset. |
Why older Climbey advice may conflict
Climbey’s December 24, 2025 update said multiplayer eye tracking required streaming through Steam Link and that Steam Frame did not then broadcast OSC data itself. That describes the software state at that time. The October 2026 SteamVR and Climbey updates postdate it, so the 2025 limitation should not be treated as current guidance for the newer streamed OSC route. Climbey’s update history.

Steam Link’s 2024 notes discuss eye-gaze information passed through OpenXR and refer to a renamed eye-tracking sharing setting. That earlier workflow is not proof of the setting name or controls for Steam Frame’s later openness-over-OSC feature. See Steam Link’s notes.

Valve said OpenVR SDK availability for eye openness was planned for an upcoming release in the October 1, 2026 beta note. That is a future intention stated in that announcement, not evidence that the SDK already exposes the data. The documented route relevant here is SteamVR’s OSC exposure while streaming, paired with Climbey’s OSC support.

A community proof of concept describes a separate experimental shared-memory bridge, but it is not presented as endorsed or necessary for this official streaming path. With SteamVR now announcing OSC exposure and Climbey announcing OSC support, readers should begin with the built-in streamed route rather than assuming a third-party bridge is required.
