For Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition on Windows PC, Microsoft Store and Minecraft.net are both official purchase routes for the same PC bundle. Neither is established as universally cheaper, so compare the final price for your region and choose the Microsoft account you want to own the game. Your seller also determines which refund process to follow.
What you’re choosing between
This comparison is about the PC game, not the Minecraft Launcher. Minecraft’s PC Java & Bedrock bundle was released on June 7, 2022, and includes access to both editions for PC owners, according to Minecraft Help. Official purchase routes include the Microsoft Store and Minecraft.net.
The Launcher can be installed through the Microsoft Store or downloaded from Minecraft.net. Buying from the website therefore does not prevent you from installing the Store-delivered Launcher; purchase channel and Launcher installation source are separate choices. The Launcher is the PC hub for accessing games, downloads, profile management, multiplayer servers and mod support, as described on the official download page.
How to choose where to buy
- Choose the owning Microsoft account. Sign into the account you want associated with Minecraft during checkout.
- Compare your local checkout totals. Check both official stores in your region and compare the final price, including any promotion or tax shown. The official pages cited here do not establish a universal price advantage for either store.
- Consider the refund route. Each seller has its own policy and request process. Use the policy for the store where you bought the game, and check whether your specific order is eligible.
Which edition will you play?
The PC bundle includes Java and Bedrock, but the editions suit different play needs. Minecraft’s official edition overview describes Java as PC-only, with extensive mod support and custom servers. Bedrock is the cross-platform option for Windows, consoles and mobile; its listed features include controller and touch support and Marketplace access.

- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes

For a Windows buyer, the bundle provides both editions. Choose which to launch based on where your friends play and whether you prefer Java’s PC-focused modding and servers or Bedrock’s cross-platform play.
Confirm that the game is attached to your account
After purchase, sign into the Launcher or Microsoft Store with the Microsoft account used at checkout. Minecraft Help’s ownership guide says the Launcher shows Play or Install for editions you own; Buy Now indicates an edition is not owned on that account. In the Store, the ownership view shows You Own This for versions owned.

Minecraft Help says purchases from Minecraft.net or the Microsoft/Xbox Store are generally eligible for a refund within 14 days, subject to eligibility. This is guidance, not a guarantee that every purchase can be refunded. For Microsoft Store requests, the help page directs buyers to Microsoft order history; only eligible items display a return option. See the current Minecraft refund guidance and confirm eligibility for your order.
