If “Clover time codes” are not working, first identify what is actually failing: an employee PIN or passcode, access to clock in or out, or a time entry in Timesheets. Clover’s public materials describe Time Clock, Timesheets, employee PINs and passcodes, and time records; they do not establish a separate feature officially named “time codes.” The right fix depends on which symptom you see.
Identify where the problem occurs
Clover describes its Time Clock and Timesheets as Homebase-powered tools embedded in Clover. Employees clock in and out on a Clover device, while managers use Timesheets to review timecards and prepare approved hours for payroll. These are distinct parts of the workflow, so changing payroll settings will not fix a rejected employee PIN.

Clover Compact: Countertop Payment Terminal - Requires New Merchant Account Through Powering POS. | $149.00 | Buy on Amazon |
- PIN or passcode rejected: check the employee’s credential and profile.
- Clock-in or clock-out action unavailable: check the employee’s access and the setup for the Clover device in use.
- Missing, incorrect, or unapproved time entry: review the employee’s timecard in Timesheets.
- Hours fail to reach payroll: after checking the timecard and its approval, contact support for the merchant’s payroll setup.
If “time code” refers to a label or payroll earnings code you can see in your own account, note exactly where it appears. Clover’s public materials do not establish that label as a universal Clover timekeeping feature; a code configured through a separate payroll provider may need to be resolved with that provider.
Fix a rejected Clover employee PIN or passcode
- Confirm the employee is using the credential configured for their Clover setup. Clover’s installation guides document configuring employee PINs or passcodes through the Employees app. The menu wording and device steps can differ, so use the guide for the actual model: Clover Mini install guide or Clover Flex install guide.
- Check the employee record. Review the employee’s profile and confirm it is the right profile and is active in the relevant setup. Clover describes employee profiles as the place where POS access, time-in/out records, performance, and permissions are managed.
- Set or change the credential using the device-specific instructions. PINs and passcodes are associated with employee identification and permission levels. Do not assume that instructions or labels for Mini apply to Flex or another Clover model.
- Try the clock-in action again. If the credential is still rejected, or the employee should have access but does not, use logged-in Clover Help so support can see details relevant to the merchant’s system.
Clover’s public materials do not specify a single universal permission toggle that resolves every clock-in failure. Avoid changing unrelated permissions or payroll settings on that assumption.

Fix a missing clock-in or clock-out option
If the employee can use the device but cannot find a clock-in or clock-out action, check the employee’s profile and access for that setup, then confirm the instructions match the Clover model at the location. Clover says employees clock in and out on a Clover device, but the public materials do not document one universal menu path or access setting for every model and merchant configuration.
- Confirm the employee is signing in under their own profile, not another employee’s.
- Check that the employee is active and has the access needed for the action.
- Use the setup instructions for the device in front of you; Mini and Flex guides may differ.
- If the action remains unavailable, contact account-specific Clover Help rather than changing payroll configuration without identifying the cause.
Fix a missing or incorrect Clover timesheet entry
For a bad or missing punch, review the timecard in Timesheets. Clover describes Timesheets as the manager route for viewing timecards, identifying clock-ins and clock-outs, missed breaks, and overtime, and correcting timesheet mistakes before payroll. Managers can review and correct the record there; approved hours become payroll-ready.
- Open Timesheets and locate the employee’s timecard for the affected date or shift.
- Check the recorded clock-in and clock-out times, breaks, and any overtime shown.
- Correct a mistake in the timesheet using the controls available in the merchant’s setup.
- Review and approve the hours when they are accurate. If the issue is that approved hours are not moving into payroll, ask Clover Help or the payroll provider to check that handoff.
This is the documented path for correcting a time record. It will not make a rejected PIN work or restore a missing clock-in action.
Check for a Clover service issue
Check Clover’s public status page for a reported service disruption. The page showed North America Clover services operational when checked on October 4, 2026. Status can change, and an operational status does not rule out a local network, device, employee-profile, or account-specific problem.
Contact Clover with the right details
Existing-system users can sign in to Clover Help for information tailored to their system and features. Clover also says Help is available on a Clover device and in the Clover Go app. When you contact support, specify whether the failure is a rejected credential, unavailable clock-in/out action, incorrect timecard, or payroll handoff. Include the device model and the affected employee and shift so support can follow the right path.
Clover’s Time and Attendance page says small-business employees logged 1.2 billion hours on Homebase in 2025. That is a Clover-reported usage figure, not an independently verified measure of accuracy or reliability.
