If you can still access the email address linked to your PlayStation account, start with Sony’s self-service recovery flow. If a hacker changed your sign-in details, you lost access to that email, or your verification method no longer works, contact PlayStation Support through its Online Assistant instead. These steps reflect Sony’s US support guidance reviewed October 4, 2026; support options may differ in other regions.
Choose the right PlayStation account recovery route
Whether you can use self-service recovery depends on your linked email, sign-in verification method, and whether account details changed without your permission.
| Situation | Next step |
|---|---|
| You can access the linked email | Use Account Management’s Trouble Signing In? > Recover Your Account flow. Sony’s account recovery guide |
| You cannot access the email, forgot it, or cannot receive the reset message | Contact Sony’s Online Assistant. Sony’s account recovery guide |
| Your sign-in ID, online ID, or password changed unexpectedly | Contact the Online Assistant; Sony identifies unrecognized changes as a support case. Sony’s account recovery guide |
| You use a passkey but cannot use your usual device | If another device has the same verification method registered, sign in there and register a new passkey. Otherwise, contact the Online Assistant. Sony’s account recovery guide |
| 2-step verification is blocking sign-in | Use Sony’s 2-step verification troubleshooting guidance for lost-phone and backup-code cases; contact the Online Assistant if you still cannot sign in. Sony’s 2-step verification help |
Recover the account if you still have the linked email
- Open Sony’s official account recovery page and go to Account Management.
- Select Trouble Signing In? > Recover Your Account.
- Enter the sign-in ID associated with the account.
- Check that email inbox for Sony’s secure recovery link. Sony says the message may take a few minutes to arrive.
- Follow the instructions in the message to regain access. Use the official PlayStation site rather than links in unsolicited emails or messages.
If the hacker changed your PSN email or other account details
If you do not recognize a change to your sign-in ID, online ID, or password, contact Sony’s Online Assistant through its recovery guidance. Do not keep requesting password-reset messages to an address that may no longer be attached to your account; Sony directs these cases to support.
If you receive an unexpected account-change email, secure the email account itself first: Sony advises changing its password. Then follow the PlayStation recovery guide. If you cannot change your sign-in method, contact PlayStation Support. Sony’s compromised-account guidance

Check unfamiliar PlayStation charges
Review your PlayStation transaction history and check whether a recurring subscription, a family purchase, or another account using the same payment method explains the charge.
