For a straightforward starting point, choose Hemotoxin: it centers on damage over time and is the simpler setup to execute. Choose Malevolence if you want a more demanding rotation geared toward burst and priority targets. Spirit Malevolence is an endgame variant that depends on high Spirit and compatible blessings, not a universal upgrade.
Mara is a melee builder-and-spender: generate Energy and combo points, maintain the debuffs your build relies on, and spend without letting resources or charges sit at their caps. The right talent and stat choices depend on build, target count, and gear. Method’s guide, updated 17 August 2026, notes that there is rarely one correct talent setup for every situation.
Which Mara DPS build should you choose?

How Mara’s resources and damage loop work
Mara has a maximum of 200 Energy and 6 combo points. Abilities including Backstab, Widow’s Bite, and Skittering Blades generate combo points; finishers such as Queen’s Fang, Hemorrhaging Strike, and Arachnid Assault spend them. Energy comes from sources including Widow’s Bite, active enemy debuffs, Maiden of Death, and, in the relevant talent setup, poison damage. - Keep the useful debuffs for your chosen build active. The rotation guide specifically recommends maintaining Seething Poison through Brooding Shadows.
- Apply Hemorrhaging Strike bleeds according to your build and the number of targets rather than following one fixed sequence.
- Spend before reaching the combo-point or Energy cap, and avoid capping charges of Brooding Shadows and Widow’s Bite.
- Use Maiden of Death and other cooldowns deliberately; line up major damage tools when a favorable damage window is near.
How to adjust the rotation for target count
Single target
Maintain the relevant poison and bleed effects, then use the finisher pattern intended by your talents. Keep generating and spending rather than waiting at resource caps. The exact priority changes with cooldown availability, talent choices, and your current Energy and combo points.
Multiple targets
Adjust builders, finishers, and bleed maintenance to the number of enemies. Method specifically calls out Skittering Blades at 8 or more targets and gives bleed-maintenance guidance by target count. Consult the rotation guide for those thresholds; do not apply a single-target sequence unchanged to every pack.

What stats should Mara prioritize?
Agility is Mara’s main stat and, according to Method, has the greatest damage effect point for point. Secondary-stat priorities are build-specific:

Method’s Mara stats, modifiers, traits, and gems guide describes Crit as a chance to double ability damage and generate extra combo points; Expertise increases damage, healing, and absorption effects; Haste increases attack speed, damage-over-time tick rate, and the frequency of most procs; and Spirit can refund spent combo points. The percentage targets above are guide recommendations for Spirit Malevolence, not independent performance benchmarks.
