Its appeal is easiest to see if you want Akira Toriyama’s setting and a machine-centered adventure; whether its action-RPG loop suits you is a more personal call. The game adapts Akira Toriyama’s manga. In a Bandai Namco Europe interview published September 8, 2023, producer Maxime Meyer said, “The project is closely supervised by Shueisha and Akira Toriyama.” That connection is a meaningful part of the game’s identity, not just a visual reference: the desert setting, demons, and characters are central to the adventure.
What do you do in Sand Land?
Bandai Namco describes a mix of on-foot and vehicle exploration, melee combat, and battles fought in machines. Players can configure vehicle parts, and the settlement of Spino can grow with people encountered during the journey. The publisher’s description establishes the scope of those systems, but it does not tell you how their controls, pacing, or progression feel in play.

Vehicles are the defining feature
Tanks and other machines are more than transport in the official pitch: they are customizable tools for exploration and combat. That makes vehicle building the clearest reason to consider the game if you are drawn to tinkering with loadouts and taking machines into fights. If your main interest is vehicle handling or a specific combat style, the available information does not establish how satisfying those systems feel firsthand.
On-foot action and Spino add variety
Exploration and combat also take place on foot, while Spino develops as the group meets people in the world. This gives the adventure more than a vehicle-only premise, but the publisher’s overview does not specify the depth of the town-building or the balance between the different activity types.
Is Sand Land worth playing if you mainly want the vehicles?
It is a natural candidate if you want vehicles to be central to an action RPG and also like Toriyama’s characters and desert-world premise. The game explicitly combines customizable machines, exploration, and vehicle combat. It is a less certain choice if you are looking for a dedicated driving game or want a guaranteed high point in handling and combat feel: the available product information cannot substantiate that kind of hands-on judgment.
Reception snapshots suggest that responses vary. Metacritic showed a 71 Metascore from 75 critic reviews, labeled “Mixed or Average,” and a 7.5 user score from 171 ratings when retrieved October 4, 2026. Steam showed “Very Positive,” with 86% positive among 1,018 user reviews on the same retrieval date. These are changing aggregator totals, not a substitute for reading individual reviews or a guarantee that your priorities will match the average.

Which platforms can you play Sand Land on?
Bandai Namco’s April 26, 2024 worldwide launch announcement listed PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The official game page currently surfaces PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Steam; check the store for your region to confirm current availability, particularly for Xbox.
