8 Pokémon ROM Hacks With Fakemon: Picks for Original Designs and Familiar Worlds

Find a Fakemon experience to match your taste: all-new rosters, an Emerald remix, a new region, sweets-themed designs, or redesigned familiar Pokémon.

For the strongest all-new-creature focus, start with Pokémon Clover; for an adventure with a new region, consider Pokémon Vega; and for an Emerald remix that retains much of its familiar story, look at Blazing Emerald. The eight picks below are an editorial shortlist based on reported creature designs, setting, tone, and how each game changes its source material—not a measured or definitive ranking.

“Fakemon” is a fan term for fan-created Pokémon, not an official category. Some lists also apply it to redesigned official species, so the entries below distinguish original creatures from visual or type reworks. Feature and roster details are attributed to the cited roundups; current versions, availability, and compatibility have not been verified.

How to read this list

A strict Fakemon pick means a game adds original fan-created species. A looser pick may instead redesign official Pokémon or include only a small number of new designs. That distinction matters: wanting a whole new roster is different from wanting familiar Pokémon reimagined.

The selection draws on PokeCoders’ roundup, updated in November 2024, The Filibuster Blog’s roundup, updated in July 2025, and—where noted—an individual PokéCommunity recommendation. These are descriptions and opinions, not a shared test or authoritative ranking.

The eight picks

1. Pokémon Clover — for an all-Fakemon roster and a deliberately mature tone

PokeCoders describes Clover as having around 386 Fakemon and no regular Pokémon. It also reports a long, distinctive story, mature and comedic dialogue, updated items and moves, reusable TMs, and the physical/special split. The roster count and feature details are PokeCoders’ reported figures, not a current independent audit.

Choose it if you want a roster built around fan-made species and are comfortable with the game’s reported mature edge. That tone is a defining consideration, not a minor aside.

2. Pokémon Vega — for a new region and a substantial adventure

PokeCoders describes Vega as a sequel to Altair and Sirius, set in the Tohoak region, with new music and updated or new moves. Its roundup says the game includes over 200 Pokémon and Fakemon. The Filibuster Blog instead reports 181 new Fakemon; the figures use different descriptions and should not be treated as a single verified count.

The Filibuster Blog characterizes the challenge as harder and notes postgame content. A PokéCommunity participant also recommends the original Vega, citing its long postgame. Those are source and player impressions, not controlled difficulty or length measurements.

3. Pokémon Blazing Emerald — for new creatures within an Emerald remix

PokeCoders describes Blazing Emerald as retaining much of Emerald’s story while adding Fakemon and changing other parts of the game. Reported changes include a somewhat harder experience, altered trainer teams, and the physical/special split. Its listed starter options include Pikachu, Eevee, and Clefairy.

This is the natural fit if you want new creature designs without leaving the broad shape of a familiar adventure. The roundup does not establish a current version or provide a complete roster audit.

4. Pokémon Sweet 2th — for a playful, sweets-themed creature collection

The Filibuster Blog describes Sweet 2th as a playful hack with a new region, a sweets-themed type chart, 386 Fakemon, and 25 Mega Evolutions. Those roster and mechanic figures are reported by that 2025 roundup; current project status and version availability have not been verified.

Its premise makes it a distinctive choice if you want a themed departure from a conventional Pokémon setting. The source description does not establish how its Fakemon roster compares in design or balance with the other games here.

5. Pokémon Fool’s Gold — for redesigned familiar species, not an all-new roster

The Filibuster Blog describes this Crystal hack as redesigning all 251 Pokémon with new visuals, types, and habitats. These are reworks of existing species, so Fool’s Gold suits players who want a fresh take on familiar Pokémon rather than a roster made up of original Fakemon.

6. Pokémon Prism — for a lighter touch of new designs

PokeCoders describes Prism as a Game Boy Color title with an original story, Gas and Sound types, and a small set of creatures it counts as Fakemon. The Filibuster Blog likewise characterizes it as light on Fakemon while noting new legendary designs.

It is a boundary-case recommendation: the sources support it as an adventure with some new creature concepts, not as a strong pick for players seeking a large original roster.

7. Pokémon Altair — for Vega’s predecessor

PokeCoders describes Vega as a sequel to Altair and Sirius, which makes Altair relevant for readers interested in the series’ earlier entry. The available source details do not establish an exact Fakemon count, its specific creature roster, or how its story and mechanics compare with Vega.

Consider it when playing the predecessor matters more to you than having a well-documented roster breakdown. The case for including it here is its reported relationship to Vega, not a verified claim that it is among the most Fakemon-heavy hacks.

8. Pokémon Sirius — another reported entry in the Vega series

PokeCoders also identifies Sirius as a predecessor to Vega. As with Altair, the available descriptions do not provide an exact Fakemon count or enough detail to compare its roster, story, and mechanics with the better-documented picks.

It belongs on a broader discovery list for readers following the connected games, but is a less evidence-backed choice if your main requirement is a substantial set of original species.

Pick by the kind of new-creature experience you want

What you want Best fit from this list Why
A roster centered on original Fakemon Pokémon Clover PokeCoders reports around 386 Fakemon and no regular Pokémon.
A new region and a longer-feeling adventure Pokémon Vega Sources describe Tohoak, new music and moves, and postgame content; the postgame detail is a community recommendation.
New creatures while retaining a familiar story Pokémon Blazing Emerald PokeCoders says it retains much of Emerald’s story while changing mechanics and adding Fakemon.
A themed setting built around sweets Pokémon Sweet 2th The Filibuster Blog reports a new region and sweets-themed type chart.
Redesigned versions of familiar Pokémon Pokémon Fool’s Gold The reported focus is reworking the 251 existing species, not replacing them with an all-original roster.
A smaller dose of new designs in a Game Boy Color adventure Pokémon Prism Sources describe a small set of Fakemon and new legendary designs.

Why Xenoverse is not counted as a ROM hack here

Pokémon Xenoverse may appeal to the same search for new creature designs, but The Filibuster Blog explicitly categorizes it as a fan game rather than a conventional ROM hack. That article describes its Eldiw region, X species, and 583-species Pokédex. Those details make it an adjacent option for readers open to standalone fan games; they do not make it one of the eight ROM hacks.

What to verify before choosing a game

The cited roundups do not establish current releases, compatibility, or complete roster details. Check the project’s own information before setting up a game, and do not assume that a source’s roster count or feature list describes the latest version. No download or compatibility link is provided here because the cited material did not verify an official project page.
