That placement does not establish a precise snap or target order: Los Angeles lists five tight ends on its initial 53-man roster, while Ferguson’s 2025 production and expanding responsibilities show why he is part of the rotation.
Where Ferguson sits on the Rams’ 2026 tight end chart
The Rams’ unofficial depth chart groups Davis Allen and Tyler Higbee on one tight end row, Colby Parkinson and Terrance Ferguson on another, and Max Klare on a separate row. The team does not present that layout as a definitive TE1-through-TE5 ranking, nor does it translate the rows into expected snaps or targets.
The initial 53-man roster announcement, published August 30, 2026, lists five tight ends: Tyler Higbee, Colby Parkinson, Davis Allen, Terrance Ferguson, and Max Klare. With that many players in the room, a chart entry is best read as a roster snapshot—not a weekly workload forecast.
What Ferguson showed as a rookie
Ferguson appeared in 14 regular-season games and made three starts in 2025, according to his Rams player profile. He finished with 11 receptions for 231 yards and three touchdowns. The yardage and scoring totals indicate that his catches could produce chunk gains, though they do not by themselves establish how large his 2026 target share will be.

The Rams report that Ferguson recorded six receptions of at least 25 yards in 2025, the most by a Rams rookie tight end in the preceding 35 years. That historical comparison is the team’s, rather than an independently verified league-wide statistic.
His involvement also grew during the season. In a September 6, 2026 feature, the Rams said he played at least 30% of the offense’s snaps in every game from Weeks 6–17 except one. That stretch is evidence of a meaningful role in much of the second half of his rookie year, not a guarantee of the same share—or more—in 2026.

His role is broader than receiving
Head coach Sean McVay described Ferguson as playing “every single skill position except for halfback for us.” Ferguson said he wanted to contribute in every aspect of the game, including the run game, and discussed lining up both outside and in-line. Those comments describe the versatility the Rams see and the responsibilities Ferguson hopes to handle; they are not a promise of a particular weekly workload.
That range matters because tight ends have to contribute in different phases. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford described the adjustment as being an extension of the offensive line in pass protection and the run game, then running routes and winning against coverage. Ferguson’s value to the offense can therefore include formation flexibility and blocking as well as receiving.

Why the Rams’ three-tight-end sets matter
A November 7, 2025 Rams feature said the team moved into three-tight-end, or 13-personnel, formations as the tight-end group became healthier. It identified Ferguson’s growth as one factor that helped make that usage possible. The account also noted earlier tight-end injuries and described wide receivers as focal points, so the personnel shift should not be credited to Ferguson alone.
Three-tight-end sets give the Rams options to change the formation and present different matchup problems without making Ferguson’s target volume predictable. He may be useful as a receiver, blocker, or movable piece, but the formation story does not establish that the team will use 13 personnel at a particular rate in 2026.

Draft status did not guarantee a starting job
The Rams signed Ferguson, their second-round pick, on July 19, 2025. At the time, McVay said, “He’s a guy we expect to contribute and to be able to do some good things, but that’s going to be earned.” His draft position signaled the team’s investment, while the coach’s qualification made clear that playing time depended on what Ferguson earned on the field.
