Yes. A Quest headset can stream PC VR over Wi-Fi even when the PC also connects to the router wirelessly. Air Link, Steam Link and Virtual Desktop are available routes. The important distinction is that this all-wireless arrangement is possible, but it is not Meta’s recommended Air Link setup: Meta advises connecting the PC to the router or access point by Ethernet.
How the all-Wi-Fi setup works
The PC runs the VR game and sends its image and audio over the local wireless network to the Quest. The headset sends input back over that network. Meta describes Air Link as using a wireless network to stream PC VR content to Quest; it also warns that wireless degradation can cause dropped frames and lag. A cable from the PC to the router is therefore not an absolute requirement, but the quality of the wireless connection matters.
Keep the PC and headset on the same local network where possible. The VRChat wireless-play guide recommends a 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection and a Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E router as preferred conditions. These are recommendations, not proof that a particular router or Wi-Fi generation is required.

For a Steam-focused setup, Steam Link is the free option identified by VRChat. Air Link is the Meta option, while Virtual Desktop is a paid alternative with its own PC Streamer application. The available guidance does not establish that one will always be easier or perform better on a given home network.

Meta’s recommended Air Link network setup
Meta Store Support’s Air Link best-practice advice specifies:
- Connect the PC to the router or access point with Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi.
- Connect the headset over 5 GHz Wi-Fi using AC or AX.
- Place the router in the same room as the headset, or ensure line of sight, and position it at least 1 metre (3.3 feet) above the ground.
- Use a non-mesh configuration.
If you cannot run Ethernet to the PC, you can still try Air Link with both devices on Wi-Fi, but that departs from Meta’s recommended PC connection. Do not assume it will perform like the recommended arrangement: the cited guidance warns generally about wireless degradation, but does not quantify the difference between an Ethernet-connected PC and a Wi-Fi-connected PC.

What to check if streaming is unstable
Before buying new equipment, check the conditions most directly related to the guidance:
- Confirm that the PC and headset are on the same local network.
- Check that the headset is connected to 5 GHz Wi-Fi rather than a slower or more congested band.
- Move closer to the router or access point, ideally into the same room or line of sight.
- Consider whether nearby wireless traffic is causing congestion; wireless degradation can show up as lag or dropped frames.
- If the existing network remains weak or congested, a Wi-Fi 6 router may be an upgrade to consider. The sources do not say a new router is mandatory.
For Air Link specifically, Meta’s recommended configuration also includes Ethernet for the PC and a non-mesh setup. Those recommendations are worth distinguishing from the basic possibility of trying an all-Wi-Fi connection.
