Reporting identified one as an extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe, but neither Respawn’s statement nor the reporting establishes that it was Titanfall 3. The grounded good news for fans is that Titanfall 2 remains the released sequel—and Respawn’s broad commitment to player-first games leaves its future open without promising another Titanfall.
What Respawn confirmed—and what reporters identified
In a statement reported on April 29–30, 2025, Respawn Entertainment said it had ended development on two early-stage incubation projects. The studio’s confirmation established the cancellations, not the games’ identities.

GameSpot and Game Informer, citing Bloomberg’s reporting, identified one canceled project as an extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe. GameSpot reported that it was codenamed R7 and was not close to release; Game Informer likewise described it as very early in development. Those are reported details, rather than specifics in Respawn’s quoted cancellation statement. GameSpot’s April 29 report and Game Informer’s April 30 update cover the cancellation.
Was the canceled game Titanfall 3?
That has not been established. The reported extraction shooter belonged to the Titanfall universe, but that description does not make it a numbered mainline sequel. Nor do the available reports establish that this canceled project was the same as a separate, rumored Respawn skunkworks project.

GameSpot’s April 9, 2025 coverage said the identity of that skunkworks project was unclear and cautioned readers not to treat rumors of a nearly complete Titanfall sequel as confirmed. Its reporting at the time described uncertainty, not proof that Titanfall 3 was in development or later canceled. Read GameSpot’s report on the rumors.
What good news can fans take from this?
Titanfall 2 remains the released sequel
For a confirmed continuation of the series, Titanfall 2 is the game to revisit. EA describes it as a Titanfall sequel, and GameSpot lists releases for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The canceled project was not part of those editions. EA’s Titanfall franchise page provides the official series context.

Respawn left its broad commitment intact
In its April 2025 statement, Respawn said, “Looking ahead, our commitment to player-first experiences remains unchanged.” That is a general studio commitment, not an announcement or promise of another Titanfall game. In a separate February 28, 2024 portfolio note, EA President Laura Miele said the company was pivoting away from early development on a Star Wars FPS and toward owned brands and support for existing games; that decision was not a Titanfall announcement.
