Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection is a generous, replayable action RPG package for Switch 2, but its persistent internet requirement puts a real limit on portable play. It includes the base game and both expansions, Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred. Nintendo Life reviewer Mitch Vogel gave the North American Switch 2 version a Great 8/10 on September 25, 2026; his review praised its loot-driven progression and breadth while noting performance hiccups and an open world that feels underused.
What’s included in the Age of Hatred Collection?
The collection bundles Diablo IV’s base game with the Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred expansions. Nintendo describes it as the complete Age of Hatred story across multiple campaigns. Blizzard positions the bundle as best suited to players new to Diablo IV; both expansions require the base game.
Nintendo US announced availability on September 16, 2026, at a regular listed price of $69.99. That is the price in Nintendo’s US announcement, not a guarantee of today’s retailer price. Nintendo UK’s product listing gives a 69.4 GB download size and a September 15, 2026 release date; those are UK listing details and may differ by region. The official UK listing describes a downloadable product, so it does not establish that every retail box is a game card.
If you already own Diablo IV or either expansion, check your account’s entitlements before buying: the collection includes the base game and both expansions, and Blizzard’s recommendation is primarily for newcomers.

How does Diablo IV play on Switch 2?
The core appeal is the familiar loop of fighting through groups of enemies, collecting loot, and improving a character over time. Vogel praised the progression, the opportunity to experiment with classes and builds, and the amount of bundled content. In his judgment, the package is an enjoyable, addictive RPG with substantial replayability. That is his review assessment, not a claim about a fixed amount of playtime.
He also found the open world underused, and reported occasional performance hiccups. The collection’s size and repeatable progression make it a substantial option for players who enjoy building characters and returning for more loot, but the open-world structure did not impress him as much as the combat and progression.

Switch 2 performance modes: image quality or responsiveness?
Blizzard’s Switch 2 FAQ lists two modes. The figures below are targets, not a guarantee that the game holds those rates in every scene.
| Mode | Handheld | Docked | Practical trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quality | 1080p, 30 fps target | 1440p, 30 fps target | Higher docked resolution, lower frame-rate target |
| Performance | 1080p, 40 fps target | 1080p, 40 fps target; requires a compatible 120 Hz-or-higher display | Higher frame-rate target at 1080p; the docked display requirement matters if you want this mode on a TV |
Vogel preferred Performance mode in his review. He said Quality mode was less consistent at holding its target in his testing; in Performance mode, he noticed enemy-animation detail could look simplified when many enemies filled the screen. These are his observations from the reviewed version and should not be read as a guarantee about every update or session.

Can you play Diablo 4 offline on Switch 2?
No. Nintendo UK’s listing requires persistent internet access and a Battle.net account. Nintendo Life reports that losing the connection returns players to the home screen. That makes connectivity a condition of play, not just a requirement for online multiplayer: handheld mode does not make the game suitable for a commute, flight, or other trip without reliable internet.
Vogel captured the practical issue directly: “Those with spotty connections will want to keep this in mind, as the internet requirement does limit the contexts in which you can play it on a portable console.” The collection supports handheld, tabletop, and TV play, but those modes do not remove the online requirement.

Multiplayer and other Switch 2 details
Nintendo UK lists one-to-two players on a single system and online play for up to four. Blizzard’s Switch 2 FAQ also addresses cross-progression and Nintendo Switch Online distinctions, but the available details here do not specify the exact account setup or subscription conditions for each multiplayer case. Check the current regional listing and Blizzard guidance if those requirements will determine your purchase.
Is Diablo IV worth it on Switch 2?
For newcomers who want the base game and both expansions in one purchase, the collection looks like a strong content-rich choice, and Vogel’s Great 8/10 reflects a positive overall review. Its loot, progression, and build experimentation suit repeated play, while Switch 2’s handheld option adds flexibility when an internet connection is available.

The caveat is decisive for some buyers: this is not an offline portable RPG. If your intended play depends on disconnected travel, the persistent connection requirement undermines the convenience of handheld mode. Returning players should also verify which content they already own before paying for a bundle that includes it again.
