A new purchase, a PlayStation Plus monthly game, and a catalog game follow different routes and do not all grant the same kind of access.
Download a game you already own
- From Games home, open Game Library.
- Choose Your Collection.
- Select the game, then choose Download.
The game installs automatically. Depending on the title, you may be able to play part of it while the rest downloads. To download an add-on, open the game’s Add-Ons section. See PlayStation’s guide to finding and downloading games.

Buy and download a new game
Connect the PS5 to the internet and sign in to the account you want to use for the purchase. Sony’s PS5 quick-start guide states that an internet connection and account sign-in are required to purchase and download games. After buying the game from PlayStation Store, find it in Game Library > Your Collection and select Download.
Claim a PlayStation Plus game or download a catalog game
PlayStation Plus offers more than one route to games. A monthly game you claim is not the same entitlement as a game you access through a subscription catalog.

Catalog access depends on the game’s current availability and your membership tier; it should not be treated as a permanent purchase. Check PlayStation’s Game Catalog information for catalog details.

- Pair or link your PS5 with PlayStation App.
- In the app, open Game Library > Purchased.
- Select the game and choose Download to Console.
For a remote download to work, the console must have Stay Connected to the Internet enabled and be in Rest Mode. See PlayStation App features and setup.

If a purchased game is missing
- Check Game Library > Your Collection while signed in to the account that made the purchase.
- Check Transaction History to confirm the transaction.
- On PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Game and App Services to see content applied to the account.
- If the transaction is confirmed but the entitlement is still missing, contact PlayStation Support.
