Battlefield REDSEC launched on October 28, 2025. It is a standalone, free-to-play Battlefield experience, so you do not need to own Battlefield 6. It is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with cross-play reported between those platforms. EA has not published a current, verified per-platform download size in its reviewed support guide, so older launch-day estimates should not be treated as the amount you need today.
When did Battlefield REDSEC release, and is it free?
Electronic Arts launched Battlefield REDSEC on October 28, 2025, alongside Battlefield 6 Season 1. EA describes REDSEC as a standalone, free-to-play experience. Owning Battlefield 6 is not required; owners can access both experiences through one launcher.
REDSEC is free to access, but EA confirms that paid Battle Pass tiers and cosmetic items are available. Overall account progression and the Battle Pass are shared between REDSEC and Battlefield 6, although some challenges are specific to one game or the other.
What platforms is REDSEC on, and what do you need to play?
EA Help lists REDSEC for PC through the EA App, Epic Games Store and Steam, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. You need an EA Account and a persistent internet connection.

There is a regional exception to the usual console-subscription question: EA Help says PlayStation Plus is required to download REDSEC components on PlayStation systems in Germany because of regional age restrictions and German content regulations. That requirement should not be generalized to other regions.
What modes are in Battlefield REDSEC?
EA’s official FAQ describes Battle Royale, Gauntlet and Portal. A later EA Help overview names Battle Royale, Ranked and Portal. Those lists differ, so they should be read as descriptions from different points in the game’s support materials—not as a single, synchronized, exhaustive list of everything currently available.
Battle Royale
EA described Battle Royale as a 100-player mode in its 2025 FAQ and launch announcement.
Gauntlet
EA’s 2025 materials describe Gauntlet as round-based squad missions: eight teams of four compete in rounds with five-minute mission windows. The later EA Help mode overview does not name Gauntlet, so check the current in-game listings for the live lineup.

Portal lets players create or discover REDSEC experiences, according to EA’s FAQ.
Does Battlefield REDSEC have cross-play?
Yes. In reporting dated October 30, 2025, TechRadar said cross-play connected PlayStation 5, Xbox and PC players and was enabled by default. At that time, console players could turn it off, while PC players could not. TechRadar also reported that matchmaking prioritized console players together where possible, expanding cross-play if a suitable match was unavailable.
Those details describe the settings reported at launch, not a guarantee of today’s controls. If you want to squad up across platforms or limit matchmaking to your own platform, check the current in-game cross-play settings before making plans.

There is no verified current per-platform REDSEC download or installed size in the EA Help guide reviewed for this article. The amount to download can depend on your platform, whether Battlefield 6 files are already installed, which content you select and subsequent updates.

Launch-day reports from October 28, 2025, conflict: Windows Central estimated upwards of 98 GB for players without Battlefield 6 and about 8 GB for existing owners; TechRadar reported 63.67 GB standalone and 8.4 GB for existing owners. These are historical estimates, not current guarantees, and they do not establish a single size for every platform or installation.
For the best estimate before installing, check the REDSEC listing or installation screen on your platform. If Battlefield 6 is already installed, use the download amount shown there rather than assuming you need a full standalone download. Leave additional free space for updates; the reported download size is not a reliable measure of future storage needs.
What PC storage and hardware should you check?
Windows Central’s launch-era PC requirements table listed 55 GB of HDD storage at minimum and 90 GB of SSD storage for recommended and ultra tiers. The same table listed 16 GB of RAM for minimum and recommended tiers, and 32 GB for ultra. These are dated launch-era specifications, not confirmation of current requirements; consult the current platform requirements before buying or upgrading hardware. The listed SSD tiers do not mean NVMe storage is specifically required.
