How the sales, Fests and Next Fests differed
Seasonal sales
Valve describes major seasonal sales as Steam-wide events open to released games participating with discounts. The Spring and Summer Sales were the seasonal sales listed for this period.

Themed Fests
Themed Sales Events, commonly called Fests, focus on game categories that can vary from year to year. The 2025 schedule included themes such as strategy, co-op, visual novels and fishing. A Fest’s category focus distinguishes it from the broader seasonal sales.
Steam Next Fest
Next Fest highlights upcoming Steam games through free demos. Valve says the event also helps developers build audiences through wishlists. The calendar included February and June editions, rather than treating Next Fest as a seasonal discount sale.

Notable timing in the 2025 calendar
- The June Next Fest ended June 16, the same date Fishing Fest began; Fishing Fest ran through June 23.
- The Summer Sale began June 26, three days after Fishing Fest ended, and continued into July.
- The February edition of Next Fest ran February 24–March 3, followed by Visual Novel Fest beginning March 3.
These dates describe Valve’s 2025 announcement only; they do not establish dates for later years. The dated schedule report is the readable source for the calendar, while Valve’s official announcement was linked from that report.
