The comparison is about peak concurrent players on Steam—not copies sold, revenue, or the total audience across consoles and PC storefronts.
What did The Veilguard beat?
Game Developer reported that The Veilguard slightly exceeded Jedi: Survivor’s all-time Steam peak of 67,855 concurrent players. The outlet described The Veilguard as EA’s biggest single-player Steam launch. Its headline rounded the new game’s peak to “70K,” but the comparison text does not provide an exact count, so that rounded figure should not be treated as a precise total.
The result is best understood as a narrow platform-and-metric record: an EA single-player game’s peak concurrent players on Steam. It does not establish that The Veilguard sold more copies than Jedi: Survivor, earned more money, or attracted more players across all platforms.
What the Steam comparison measures—and what it does not
Peak concurrent players
Concurrent players are people playing at the same time. A peak records the highest simultaneous player count during the measured period; it is not the number of unique people who played over launch week or the game’s lifetime.

Steam, not every platform
EA released The Veilguard on October 31, 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, the EA app, and Epic Games Store, describing it as a single-player RPG in its launch announcement. The reported record concerns Steam alone. It does not combine those storefronts or include console players.
Not a sales or revenue record
Game Developer noted that EA and BioWare had not disclosed hard sales numbers when it reported the Steam comparison. EA’s later Q3 FY25 filing reported $599 million in company-wide full-game net revenue for the three months ended December 31, 2024, primarily driven by several titles, including The Veilguard. That portfolio figure is not a title-specific sales total and does not quantify the Steam launch.

When and where The Veilguard launched
EA’s October 31, 2024 announcement listed PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, the EA app, and Epic Games Store as platforms. The game is single-player, so its Steam peak reflects simultaneous players in a single-player title rather than a multiplayer match or server population.
EA listed suggested retail prices at launch of $69.99 for the console Standard Edition and $59.99 for the PC Standard Edition; the Deluxe Edition was listed at $89.99 on console and $79.99 on PC. Those are historical launch-announcement prices, not current prices or verified offers.

Why the wording of the record matters
The broad claim that The Veilguard became the “biggest-ever single-player game” can imply a record across all games, platforms, or measures of success. The evidence supports a more specific statement: Game Developer reported that it surpassed Jedi: Survivor’s previous Steam concurrency peak and became EA’s biggest single-player launch on Steam by that measure. The record was reported by the outlet; the cited sources do not show EA announcing it as an official record.
