The strongest historical fits for a team with Wolverine are Kitty Pryde, Storm, Nightcrawler and Colossus: Marvel’s histories describe close bonds or shared X-Men experience, not a planned future lineup. Jubilee is a notable mentor-and-student option in the X-Men ’97 game profile, while later published team examples show other characters alongside Logan in specific contexts.
What “most likely” means here
Marvel’s published material establishes past relationships, leadership roles and team rosters; it does not announce a future X-Men lineup built around Wolverine. So “most likely” is best read as story fit: who has already worked closely with him, who has a stated personal or mentoring connection, and who has appeared in a team he led or joined.
That question suits Logan because team membership sits in tension with his loner reputation. Marvel’s X-Men ’97 Marvel Multiverse RPG profile describes that adaptation’s Wolverine as someone who “often chooses to operate solo,” but says his attitude toward fellow X-Men softened and he became a valued teammate. That is an adaptation-specific framing, not a rule for every version of Wolverine.
The strongest history-and-relationship fits
Kitty Pryde
Kitty is the clearest personal-bond candidate. Marvel’s Kitty Pryde biography says she became close to Wolverine after joining the X-Men; he affectionately called her “Cat” and “Pun’kin.” She also worked on staff at the Jean Grey School during Wolverine’s headmaster era, making her a natural fit for both close character scenes and a school-team setting.

Storm
Storm combines a long shared history with leadership compatibility. Marvel’s Wolverine reading guide places Logan’s move into the X-Men at Giant-Size X-Men (1975) #1 and names Storm among the teammates with whom he formed a tight bond. She was also on the Jean Grey School staff during Wolverine’s leadership period. That makes her a particularly strong fit for a team in which Logan needs an experienced equal, not simply another recruit.
Nightcrawler
Nightcrawler is another relationship-based choice from Wolverine’s early X-Men years. Marvel’s guide specifically includes him among Logan’s close teammates after he joined the international team. The cited history supports a strong shared-history case, though it does not establish a later school-staff connection.

Colossus
Colossus belongs in the same first tier: Marvel’s guide names him among the X-Men with whom Wolverine formed a tight bond. The available evidence for this comparison is that early team relationship; it does not provide the same Wolverine-era school context noted for Kitty and Storm.
Mentorship and wider school-team options
Jubilee
Jubilee is a distinct fit because the Marvel X-Men ’97 RPG profile identifies Wolverine as her mentor and describes her as closely connected to her teammates. Use that as evidence for the X-Men ’97 adaptation, rather than assuming every detail applies across comic continuities.

Beast, Iceman, Rachel Grey, Husk and Doop
Marvel’s Jason Aaron omnibus description names these mutants, along with Kitty and Storm, on staff at the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, which Wolverine led. This makes them credible fits for a school-era ensemble, but the staff list alone does not establish that each had Kitty’s personal closeness with Logan.
What published team examples show
A recent, specific example is Weapon X-Men (2025). Marvel’s collection page lists Wolverine, Deadpool, Cable, Chamber and Thunderbird together, and says the paperback collects Weapon X-Men (2025) #1–5. Its listed publication date is October 15, 2025. This is evidence of a published team in that collection—not a prediction about a later roster.

For a broader historical perspective, Marvel’s X-Men team history describes Wolverine taking over as headmaster of the school later known as the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, and notes that many mutants led squads of their own. Logan’s team history also crosses beyond the X-Men: Marvel’s Alpha Flight history says he took part in the early Flight before leaving Department H to join the X-Men. Alpha Flight was a separate team, not an X-Men squad.
